MBA Hires Helen R. Kanovsky as General Counsel

WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 13, 2016) - David H. Stevens, CMB, President and CEO of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), today announced the appointment of Helen R. Kanovsky as MBA's General Counsel. Reporting directly to Stevens, Kanovsky will be responsible for overseeing the Association's internal legal affairs, human resources and compliance matters.
"Helen's vast legal experience will help to ensure that MBA is compliant with all matters relating to the Association's primary operations and duties," said Stevens. "She brings a wealth of legal knowledge to the position and we look forward to having her serve as an important member of MBA's leadership team."
Prior to joining MBA, Ms. Kanovsky was the General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Additionally she had multiple stints at the AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust, both as the Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel. She was also previously the Chief Operating Officer of the AFL-CIO Investment Trust Corporation.
Ms. Kanovsky has also served as General Counsel at GE Capital Asset Management Corporation, General Counsel for Skyline Financial Services Corporation, Chief of Staff to Senator John F. Kerry, and as a Partner at Leff & Mason, as well as a Partner and Associate at Dickstein, Shapiro & Morin.
Ms. Kanovsky is admitted to practice law before the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. Additionally she is a member of the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association and the Washington, D.C. Bar Association.
Ms. Kanovsky graduated cum Laude with a law degree from Harvard University and cum Laude with an undergraduate degree from Cornell University.
