Serving Borrowers in Other Languages (LEP)
MBA is facilitating dialog with consumer advocacy groups and actively engaging with regulators to ensure that MBA members can safely and sustainably serve LEP borrowers.
Overview: Limited English proficiency (LEP) individuals are those who have a limited ability to read, speak, write, or understand English. Census data shows that nearly 9 percent of United States population has limited English proficiency. This is a growing demographic that MBA members are eager to serve. MBA continues to engage members to determine what resources are useful and to work towards solutions for the legal, policy and operational questions related to language access.
