- Last week, Congress approved MBA-developed legislation that would fix the "orphaned VA loan" problem, by which many VA-guaranteed refinances were inadvertently made ineligible for Ginnie Mae pooling. This correction will improve liquidity in the secondary market while ensuring that important consumer protections are maintained.
- Final federal private flood insurance regulations are set to go into effect July 1, 2019. The regulations implement certain provisions of the 2012 Biggert-Waters Act and require covered lenders to accept private flood insurance that meets certain criteria in satisfaction of the mandatory purchase requirement.
- The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Monday announced a Request for Information (RFI) requesting stakeholder input on how the Department can facilitate the greatest beneficial impact of Opportunity Zones.
