Last week, the full House of Representatives passed several financial services-related bills to encourage access to appraisers and promote rural multifamily housing preservation, including the Homebuyer Assistance Act of 2019, H.R. 2852, and the Strategy Investment in Rural Housing Preservation Act of 2019, H.R. 3620, both of which MBA supported

On September 16, MBA submitted detailed comments to the CFPB on the need to reform the Qualified Mortgage standard before the expiration of the GSE Patch in order to avoid significant market disruption. In addition, 64 state and local mortgage banking associations provided similar recommendations, highlighting the importance of this issue to housing markets throughout the nation.

  4. On September 13th, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) announced a revised cap structure on the multifamily businesses of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (the GSEs). The new structure would allow Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac $100 billion each to support the multifamily market, for the five-quarter period of Q4 2019 - Q4 2020. The structure would apply to all multifamily business with no exclusions. The new multifamily caps also require that at least 37.5% of the GSEs' multifamily business be mission-driven, affordable housing.
