    Correctly valuing and accounting for MSRs is an important aspect of the mortgage lending business. This panel helps you understand the importance of pricing, valuing and hedging MSRs, how to analyze interest rate scenarios, the different types of accounting treatment of MSRs — LOCOM or Fair Value, and discuss available valuation tools — and off-the-shelf models vs. third-party vendors.


    Alan Qureshi, Managing Partner, Blue Water Financial Technologies

    Al Qureshi is a Managing Partner at Blue Water Financial Technologies.  Al brings over 20 years of experience in mortgage and capital markets to Blue Water’s senior management team. Al is responsible for overseeing product development, day to day operations and informing strategic thought. Immediately prior to joining Blue Water, Alan “Al” Qureshi was the President of Incenter Portfolio Advisors. At Incenter, Al developed various MSR related hedge strategies and valuation models as well as an MSR execution Platform called MSR-X. Al brings all of these developments with him to Blue Water and is excited to continue to build upon these strategies in a dynamic, sophisticated and client-focused environment. Prior to joining Incenter, Al served as Head of Mortgage Servicing Hedging and Hedging Analytics at U.S. Bank. Al has also held MSR, analytic, hedging and trading appointments for JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch and Diamondback Capital.

    Mike Barber, Partner, BKM Sowan Horan

    Mike Barber, a founding Partner of the CPA firm, BKM Sowan Horan, has worked with mortgage companies for over 20 years. Mike provides assurance and consulting services for private and public companies in the mortgage, real estate and financial services industries. In addition to leading the firm in recruiting highly qualified individuals, he is involved with many professional organizations including the Texas Mortgage Bankers Association and Dallas Mortgage Bankers Association.  Mike is a CPA and earned his Masters in Professional Accounting and Bachelors in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.

    Dean H. DeMeritte, President - Trading & Analytics, PHOENIX

    Dean DeMeritte, the President of Trading and Analytics, has over 30 years in the mortgage banking industry and has been with PHOENIX since 2001. Prior to PHOENIX, he was with Fleet Mortgage as Vice President of Portfolio Transactions. He has also worked at Harbor Financial Mortgage Corp., Banc One Mortgage, Banc Plus Mortgage, Chemical Mortgage and J.I. Kislak Mortgage. His expertise includes buying and selling MSRs, contract negotiations, company acquisitions, strategic planning, finance and accounting. In addition, he was a principal with a mortgage production company. Dean has a B.S. in Marketing from the University of Maryland and has an M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance from Duke University.
