    AMF19 offers more time to meet face-to-face with your peers to network, discuss, debate and problem solve.  Choose between one of the four topics listed below and find your table to collaborate with peers in a smaller group setting. Guided by a facilitator, you will brainstorm issues and share experiences. In the last half of the session, a representative from each group will provide a 5 minute summary of your findings and solutions. This think tank session will serve to identify common challenges as well as solutions for you, your company, and our industry as a whole.

    Richard Andreano, Partner, Ballard Spahr LLP

    Richard J. Andreano, Jr., is a Practice Leader of the Mortgage Banking Group at Ballard Spahr, and a member of the Consumer Financial Services Group. He has devoted over 30 years of practice to financial services, mortgage banking, and consumer finance law.  Rich advises the mortgage and settlement service industries on regulatory compliance and related matters, including issues concerning the Dodd-Frank Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Truth in Lending Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Fair Housing Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, and Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.  He assists clients with government agency examinations and with regulatory issues, including loan originator compensation matters, affiliated business arrangement and other RESPA matters, and TRID, HMDA, ability to repay matters.  Rich is the author of the MBA Compliance Essentials Loan Originator Compensation Rule Resource Guide™ and co-author of the MBA Compliance Essentials TILA/RESPA Integrated Disclosure (TRID) Resource Guide™.

    Michael Chen-Young, Partner, AlignIQ, LLC

    Michael Chen-Young – AlignIQ, LLC, President.  Mr. Chen-Young has over 20 years of leadership experience across multiple industries overseeing business strategy and execution with integrated performance management across multiple areas such as finance, capital markets, risk, operations, technology and data. He currently leads AlignIQ’s advisory services in helping clients improve their overall performance management with integrated forecasting, reporting and analysis leveraging various CPM & BI platforms. Prior to AlignIQ, Mr. Chen-Young was the Deputy Chief Financial Officer & Treasurer overseeing the financial & liquidity management of Prospect Mortgage, a US top-30 mortgage bank with $8-$9B in annual originations generating $300 - $400M in annual revenues across retail, consumer direct, correspondent, and broker channels.

    Prior to Prospect, Mr. Chen-Young was the VP, Strategic Analytics & Finance Transformation at Fannie Mae, leading industry-changing initiatives such as Credit Risk Transfer, Loan Quality Initiative-Uniform Loan Data Delivery (ULDD), Joint Servicing Compensation Initiative, & Finance Transformation. Prior to Fannie Mae, Mr. Chen-Young helped finance and start Greensmith Energy Management Systems as its founding Chief Information Officer and acting Chief Operating Officer, building the strategy, product and platform to become a leading US provider of energy storage software and integration services.

    Prior to Greensmith, Mr. Chen-Young played multiple hands-on leadership and development roles at Fannie Mae, having started in Technology and later crossing over into Finance and Data, leading multiple performance management areas such as business planning, enterprise budgeting, executive information systems/ financial dashboards with OLAP/ business intelligence, accounting & financial reporting, and data warehousing. Mr. Chen-Young has Master’s & PhD degrees in Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics & Economics from the College of William & Mary.

    Don Halpern, Partner, Weiner Brodsky Kider PC

    Don J. Halpern has over 30 years of experience in transactional, corporate and regulatory matters involving the issues facing the mortgage banking and real estate finance industry.  Don is a partner at Weiner Brodsky Kider PC, where he represents clients in structuring, negotiating and documenting complex acquisitions, financings and other business arrangements.

    Weiner Brodsky Kider PC is a leading national law firm focusing in transactional, regulatory compliance, and litigation matters for clients throughout the United States, including financial institutions, mortgage bankers, servicers and subservicers, secondary market investors, venture capital funds, homebuilders, mortgage brokers, real estate brokers, title companies, and trade associations.

    Don received his B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, his law degree from Rutgers University School of Law, where he served as an editor of the school’s Law Journal, and his Master of Laws degree in Corporation Law from New York University School of Law.

    Paul Chiarelli, CPA, Partner, Acquavella, Chiarelli, Shuster LLP

    Paul Chiareli, CPA, is an Audit Partner at ACS and services various industries, including mortgage banking, private lending, private equity, asset-based lenders, among others. The services provided include financial statement audits, internal control analysis, subservicing oversight, quality of earnings, etc. In addition, Paul provides consultation services with respect to various mortgage banking issues, including derivatives, allowance for loan losses, leases, regulatory changes and tax matters. Paul has a B.S. in accounting and finance from Rutgers University.
