While CMBS volume grew in 2015, so did the return of widening spreads. How will broader capital market forces shape the CMBS market for 2016? Will we expect to see spreads narrow or widen in 2016? How do CMBS issuers address spread volatility and what does it mean for CMBS issuance volume in 2016? How is the CMBS market positioned to capture the surge in CMBS loan expirations in 2016? As risk retention for CMBS takes effect in late 2016, what creative structures are being contemplated by lenders to address the larger first-loss CMBS risk retention position?
