    Walter Isaacson is a Professor of History at Tulane and an advisory partner at Perella Weinberg, a financial services firm based in New York City. He is the past CEO of the Aspen Institute, where he is now a Distinguished Fellow, and has been the chairman of CNN and the editor of TIME magazine.  Isaacson’s most recent biography, Leonardo da Vinci (2017), offers new discoveries about Leonardo’s life and work, weaving a narrative that connects his art to his science. He is also the author of The Innovators: How a Group of Hackers, Geniuses, and Geeks Created the Digital Revolution (2014), Steve Jobs (2011), Einstein: His Life and Universe (2007), Benjamin Franklin: An American Life (2003), and Kissinger: A Biography (1992), and coauthor of The Wise Men: Six Friends and the World They Made (1986). He is a host of the show “Amanpour and Company” on PBS and CNN, a contributor to CNBC, and host of the podcast “Trailblazers, from Dell Technologies.”  He became chairman and CEO of CNN in 2001, and then president and CEO of the Aspen Institute in 2003.  He was appointed by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate to serve as the chairman of the Broadcasting Board of Governors, which runs Voice of America, Radio Free Europe, and other international broadcasts of the United States, a position he held from 2009 to 2012.  He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Royal Society of the Arts, and the American Philosophical Society.

    Christopher M. George, 2019 MBA Chairman, Founder, President and CEO, CMG Financial

    Christopher M. George, 2019 Chairman of the Mortgage Bankers Association, is the founder, President and CEO of CMG Financial, a privately held Mortgage Bank, headquartered in San Ramon, California. Under George's direction, CMG Financial has developed into a robust firm making its products and services available to the market nationally through three distinct origination channels including wholesale, correspondent and retail lending which also serves the home builder, real estate and credit union communities. In addition to his role at CMG Financial, George has served on the MBA's Board of Directors since 2012, is a member of MBA's Independent Mortgage Bankers Executive Council and MBA's Consumer Affairs Advisory Council, the Board of Directors for MBA's Opens Doors Foundation™ and as well as an active member of MBA's advocacy  and diversity and inclusion efforts. In 2012, George established the CMG Foundation, a philanthropic endeavor to support non-profit organizations at both the community and national levels.

    Robert D. Broeksmit, CMB, President and Chief Executive Officer, Mortgage Bankers Association

    Robert (Bob) Broeksmit, CMB became President and CEO of MBA  in August of 2018, following a 33-year career in the mortgage sector. He has directed all aspects of lending activities, including marketing, sales, operations, secondary marketing, loan servicing and default management. He has also served as a mortgage underwriting expert testifying on many large, high-profile cases. Prior to joining  MBA,  Broeksmit served as President and Chief  Operating Officer with  Treliant, heading the firm’s mortgage litigation support practice. Before Treliant, Broeksmit held senior leadership positions in the mortgage business, including 14 years with  Chevy Chase Bank (including after its purchase by Capital One).  He also was  Vice President at Prudential Home Mortgage for seven years. He has overseen annual originations of $9 billion,  a balance sheet of $10 billion in residential mortgage and a servicing portfolio of $20 billion. He is past  Chairman of MBA’s Residential Board of Governors and a member of its Board of Directors.

    Brian D. Montgomery serves as the Assistant Secretary for Housing – Federal Housing Commissioner for HUD. Nominated by President Trump in September 2017, his confirmation marks the first time an individual has served as head of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) twice, and under three different Administrations. As Federal Housing Commissioner, Montgomery is responsible for the management of FHA’s $1.3 trillion mortgage insurance portfolio, which includes its Single Family, Multifamily, and Health Care programs. As Assistant Secretary for Housing, he also oversees HUD’s project-based Section 8 rental assistance housing program, the Office of Housing Counseling, and HUD’s Manufactured Housing Program.

    Susan Stewart, 2020 MBA Chairman-Elect, Chief Executive Officer, SWBC Mortgage

    Susan Stewart is the Chairman-Elect of MBA and Chief Executive Officer of SWBC Mortgage, a full-service mortgage banking firm headquartered in San Antonio, Texas.  Beginning with just 3 employees, Stewart has grown the company to over 615 individuals operating in 39 states with annual sales in excess of $3 billion and a servicing portfolio exceeding $9 billion.  Additionally, she has guided the company through multiple acquisitions and the approval process to become an approved seller/servicer for both FNMA and FHLMC, and an approved GNMA issuer.  She currently serves as a member of MBA’s Board of Directors and is past Vice Chair of the MBA’s Residential Board of Governors (RESBOG). Stewart serves on the board of the MBA Opens Doors Foundation (ODF) and both Stewart and SWBC Mortgage have been recognized as Guardian level  donors of the organization.  She currently serves on MBA’s Consumer Affairs Advisory Council and has previously served on MBA’s Loan Production and Fraud Prevention Committee. 

    Dr. Lynn Fisher, Senior Advisor Economics, Office of the Director, Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA)

    Lynn Fisher serves as the Senior Advisor for Economics to FHFA Director Mark Calabria. Fisher joined FHFA from the American Enterprise Institute where she was a Resident Scholar and Co-Director of the Housing Center.  Prior to that, she was the Vice President of Research and Economics at the Mortgage Bankers Association and served on the faculty of the University of North Carolina, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Washington State University.  Fisher’s work has been published in a variety of academic and industry outlets, and she speaks regularly to academic and industry audiences.

    Michael R. Drayne, Acting Executive Vice President, Ginnie Mae

    Michael Drayne oversees strategic planning and policy at Ginnie Mae.  In October 2019 he was named Acting Executive Vice President, with responsibility for overseeing all of the agency’s operations.  After joining Ginnie Mae in 2011, he spent six years as the head of the Office of Issuer & Portfolio Management, where he was responsible for the management of Ginnie Mae's relationships with the mortgage lenders and servicers who issue securities under Ginnie Mae’s mortgage-backed securities program.  Mr. Drayne spent 18 years in mortgage banking at Chevy Chase Bank, where he served as Vice President and Director of Secondary Marketing.  He was responsible for managing several other operational units for the bank’s nationwide mortgage lending subsidiary.  Mr. Drayne has spoken and written widely about the U.S. secondary mortgage markets, and the evolution of the post-crisis housing finance industry and its relation to government-insured lending and the capital markets.

    Terry Schmidt is an Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Principal at Guild Mortgage Company.  Ms. Schmidt joined the company in 1985.  She is responsible for the financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, warehouse lending and human resource functions.  Ms. Schmidt also evaluates potential acquisition candidates, including transaction structures, and integration team management.  Over the years she has performed system innovations and conversions related to her areas of responsibility as well as developing value added branch and company metrics, and designing a proprietary MSR valuation and impairment model.   Ms. Schmidt has also served on the Board of Directors for Guild since 1996.

    Bill Emerson, 2016 MBA Chairman, Vice Chairman, Quicken Loans, Inc.

    Bill Emerson is Vice Chairman of Rock Holdings Inc., the parent company of Quicken Loans and several other fintech businesses. He is responsible for leadership, growth and culture development across the entire Rock Holdings portfolio. Most recently, Emerson was CEO of Quicken Loans, a position he held for 15 years, joining in 1993 as a Mortgage Banker. Emerson is an active spokesman for the housing industry and has testified before the United States Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs and the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit. He served as 2016 MBA Chairman and is a board member of the Financial Services Roundtable’s Housing Policy Council (HPC) and the HPC’s Executive Council. Emerson is a member of the Board of Directors of Xenith, Inc., a football helmet company. Dedicated to his community, he received the ALS Association’s Iron Horse Award and the Salvation Army’s prestigious William Booth Award and supports the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Michigan Chapter.

    Mark A. Jones, Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder, AmeriFirst Home Mortgage

    Mark A. Jones co-founded Kalamazoo-based AmeriFirst Home Mortgage in 1986. As CEO of the community mortgage banker, Mark and the leadership team at AmeriFirst have seen the company grow to serve over a dozen states through nearly 70 branches and nearly 700 employees. Named one of the “Fastest Growing Private Companies in America” by Inc. Magazine for the past 7 years in a row, AmeriFirst is the #1 USDA rural housing lender in the state of Michigan, the #3 FHA lender in Michigan, and one of the 50 largest FHA lenders in America. AmeriFirst services the loans it originates in house, and currently manages a servicing portfolio of about 4 Billion. Mark currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Mortgage Bankers Association and Southwest Michigan First. He is an active member of the Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association. In 2016 Mark was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Michigan and Northwest Ohio.

     

    Stanley C. Middleman, Chief Executive Officer, Freedom Mortgage Corporation

    Stanley C. Middleman is the founder and CEO of Freedom Mortgage Corporation, one of the largest and fastest-growing non-bank lenders in the U.S. mortgage industry today. He is a nationally recognized business strategist, real estate investor and philanthropist, with over 30 years of experience in the mortgage banking industry.  Since founding Freedom Mortgage in 1990, Mr. Middleman has grown the company into one of the nation’s largest U.S. originators and servicers, with over 4,300 employees and contractors in more than 75 U.S. locations. Freedom Mortgage has been named a “Top Workplace” by the Indianapolis Star Tribune and Philly.com, and has been ranked on the Inc. 5000 list of America’s Fastest Growing Companies for six consecutive years.  Mr. Middleman is an active member of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), where he serves on both the MBA Board of Directors and the MBA Residential Board of Governors.     Brian Stoffers, CMB, is Chairman of the Mortgage Bankers Association and Global President, Debt & Structured Finance at CBRE, a Fortune 500 and S&P 500 company headquartered in Los Angeles, and the world's largest commercial real estate services and investment firm. Under his leadership, approximately 180 professionals have originated approximately $300 billion in loan volume since 2007. Additionally, this practice maintains a loan services portfolio of more than $180 billion globally.  Brian has extensive experience in the origination, structuring, placement, closing and servicing of commercial real estate debt for life insurance companies, pension funds, banks, debt funds and loans, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, FHA and Wall Street sources.  Prior to the CB Richard Ellis acquisition of L.J. Melody in 1996, Brian served as senior vice president and Southwest Regional Manager for CB Commercial's mortgage banking division. He began his career with Coldwell Banker Commercial in 1981 and became a senior real estate finance officer in the firm's La Jolla, California, office. Brian currently serves on CBRE's Global Operating Committee.  An active MBA member for more than 25 years, Brian has served in several leadership positions within the organization. He currently serves as 2019 Chairman of MBA's Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Brian also serves on MBA's Executive Committee as well as the Chairman of the Audit Committee and co-chair of the GSE Reform Committee. Brian previously served on the Commercial Real Estate/Multifamily Finance Board of Directors (COMBOG), and is the former Chairman of the Task Force on GSE Reform and Capital Markets Committee.  Brian is an author of numerous industry articles and a regular contributor to national and local publications.     Marina Walsh, Vice President, Industry Analysis, Mortgage Bankers Association

    Marina Walsh is Vice President of industry analysis in MBA’s research and economics department, specializing in industry performance benchmarking for residential lenders and servicers. She has worked in real estate finance for close to 20 years. Currently, she leads the management and direction for the annual and quarterly Mortgage Bankers Performance Reports, the Servicing Operations Study and Forum, the Peer Group Survey and Roundtable Program, the Mortgage Banking Compensation Survey Program and other ad hoc surveys and policy analyses. She is also MBA’s  spokesperson for the Quarterly National Delinquency Survey.  Results of her work have been published in all of the major trade publications as well as national and local newspapers. Walsh was named to HousingWire’s “2016 Women of Influence” list. The list, which is based on nominations from the industry, highlights women who are making significant contributions to mortgage banking and real estate. Prior to joining MBA, Walsh was a manager in Ernst and Young’s Real Estate Advisory Services Group.

    Bill Lowman, President and Chief Executive Officer, American Pacific Mortgage Corporation

    Bill began his career with American Pacific Mortgage (APM) in 2002, has served as President since 2004, and was appointed to the position of President & Chief Executive Officer in 2016.  As President & CEO, Bill leverages over thirty years in the mortgage industry to better serve the customers and employees of the APM family.  Bill is an active member of both the Mortgage Bankers Association and the California Mortgage Bankers Association.  He is a member of the MBA Board of Directors, serves on the MBA Residential Board of Governors and served as Co-Chairman of the Independent Mortgage Bankers Executive Council from 2017 – 2019.  He also serves on the Board of Directors for the California Mortgage Bankers Association, is the current President of Residential, and will be the incoming Chairman in July 2020.  Bill also sits on the Board of APMCares, which is a charitable entity that provides financial assistance to our APM families in times of need and community outreach programs focused on delivering housing opportunities and homeownership in America.

    Gregory A. Keith is Ginnie Mae’s SVP & Chief Risk Officer. In this capacity, he manages the corporation’s counterparty, credit, market, operational and cyber risk.  Keith has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, focused primarily on mortgage and asset backed finance. Prior to Ginnie Mae, Keith spent nine years in various roles at Fannie Mae.  In 2001, Keith came to Fannie Mae from First Union Bank, where he was the Chief Operating Officer for the Structured Products Group of the Corporate and Investment Bank. In the past, Keith also served as a Manager at KPMG Consulting, focusing on the execution of strategic, financial, and operational engagements.

    Matt Fair is Texas Capital Bank’s SVP & Risk Manager for Mortgage Finance.  In this role, Matt manages the First Line of Defense for the bank’s mortgage finance enterprise. Matt previously served as the Risk Manager for the bank’s warehouse lending program. Matt has 20 years’ experience in mortgage finance having held underwriting, quality control and risk positions at banks, independent mortgage bankers and Freddie Mac.

    Jeff Grogin, Chief Enterprise Operations Officer, PennyMac Financial Services, Inc.

    Jeff Grogin helped create PennyMac in 2008. The PennyMac family of companies includes two NYSE-listed companies (PFSI and PMT) operating primarily in three business segments: loan production, loan servicing, and investment management. Mr. Grogin presently serves as a Senior Managing Director and Chief Enterprise Officer for both companies and oversees these teams: legal, licensing, regulatory relations, administration, facilities, corporate training, communications, strategic planning, culture, project management, internal consulting, and human resources. Since its inception in 2008, Mr. Grogin has also served on the Board of Directors of PennyMac's mortgage banking subsidiary, PennyMac Loan Services, LLC. Prior to PennyMac, he was in private legal practice first at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, LLP then Samaha Grogin, LLP focused on real estate, mergers and acquisitions, securities, intellectual property, and mortgage banking law.

    Andrew M. Brammer, Vice President, Counterparty Credit Risk, Fannie Mae

    Andrew Brammer is Fannie Mae’s Vice President – Counterparty Credit Risk, reporting to the Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer. In this role, he is responsible for monitoring the financial health of institutions transacting with Fannie Mae across Single-Family, Multifamily, and Capital Markets sectors – including oversight of mortgage insurers and reinsurers.  Previously, as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer – Shared Services, he was responsible for oversight of the administrative expense process for the enterprise – including the annual budgeting process and quarterly forecast – as well as reporting progress against budget and corporate metrics. Prior to that, Brammer served as Vice President – Capital Markets Pricing, with responsibilities for mark-to-market pricing and the business ownership of various valuation and market-data applications. He also was responsible for maintaining financial disclosures related to fair value. Before that, he was Director – Capital Markets Pricing.  Before joining Fannie Mae in 2008, Brammer was Assistant Vice President – Capital Markets at Option One Mortgage Corporation.

He is the immediate past Chair of the Mortgage Bankers Association’s Regulatory Compliance Committee, a member of ABA’s Residential Markets Committee, Past Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for MISMO, a member of the Registered Institutions Working Group for the NMLS, and an Advisory Board Member and Compliance Expert for Mortgage Compliance Magazine.  Previously he’s worked for both depository institutions as well as independent mortgage banks, a major LOS vendor, and also worked independently as the owner of a mortgage broker and real estate company.

    Sheila M. Prior to joining MAXEX, Mr. Decker was the founder and CEO of Lydian Data Services, a residential mortgage conduit with over 700 correspondents electronically linked to 8 out of the top 10 Wall Street dealers generating nearly $40 billion per annum in loan volume (1999-2010). Mr. Decker also founded and served as President of Lydian Trust Company, the bank holding company of Lydian. Together with its subsidiaries (Lydian Wealth Management, Lydian Data Services, and Lydian Private Bank), the company did over $130 million in revenue. Prior to Lydian, Mr. Decker served as the President of two community banks: VirtualBank and Enterprise National Bank, where he also served as Chairman and CEO. In 2015, John co-founded Resitrader, a whole loan platform supporting mortgage loan pricing and trading.   Resitrader is the result of several years of industry interviews, process definition and strategy development regarding the role of a technology platform in whole loan mortgage trading. In 2018, Resitrader was acquired by Optimal Blue and John joined the OB team as Vice President. John has previously held executive positions at Equator, Black Knight, and Countrywide.

    Mr. Hedlund is the Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director for AmeriHome Mortgage and one of the original founders (2013). He has led the Correspondent Lending business from inception - now the 3rd largest nationally.     Joseph M. (Joe) Gormley serves as the Chief of Staff to the Acting Deputy Secretary and the Assistant Secretary for Housing – Federal Housing Commissioner. In this role, Joe serves as the principal advisor to Brian Montgomery and other senior HUD leadership on strategic planning, policy, priority initiatives, and resource management.  With a broad background in financial services and housing policy, Joe joined HUD in June 2017. Immediately prior to joining HUD, Joe was Assistant Vice President and Regulatory Counsel at the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) where he was the policy lead on a wide range of legal and regulatory issues, including virtually all consumer financial protection laws and regulations.  Before joining ICBA, Joe served as Associate Regulatory Counsel for the Mortgage Bankers Association, where he was responsible for the Association’s policy on government-insured housing programs and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Earlier in his career, Joe worked for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) where he investigated securities fraud on the major exchanges and in the over-the-counter markets.

    John Bell, III, Deputy Director, Veterans Administration

    John began his VA career in September 2010, and currently serves as the Deputy Director of Loan Guaranty Service. Along with his most recent position as Chief of Staff for the Deputy Undersecretary for Economic Opportunity, John served as the Assistant Director for Loan Policy and Valuation in the Loan Guaranty Service, where he headed three of the four business lines, overseeing eligibility, and origination, loan Policy, Valuation, Specially Adapted Housing, and all direct loans including the Native American Direct program.  During his tenure in in this role, VA realized implementation of the automated full file loan review process, reduced timeliness for determining eligibility from 14 days to less than 48 hours, nationalized all front-end operations of the program, as well as creation of the appraisal management system.  A Veteran himself, John served in the US Navy during Operation Restore Hope and the Gulf War.  Prior to his tenure with VA, John spent 15 years in the private sector, most recently with Bank of America, serving as Vice President of VA Real Estate Management. John also held a variety of senior leadership positions at large lending institutions including Countrywide Home Loans, as Senior Vice President of Sales and Operations, and Regional Vice President of Loan Operations.  While at Countrywide, he led the design of a new portfolio retention strategy, which became an industry leading model.  Additionally, he formed the group which managed the VA property management contract and was credited with starting a national inspection group. A model still used throughout the industry to reduce costs, improve community relations, and decrease code violations.

    David J. Corwin, Deputy Director, Lender and Partner Activities, Single Family Guaranteed Program, USDA Rural Development

    David Corwin was born and raised in Endicott, NY, and attended Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Management Science with a concentration in Economics and Finance. In the 16 years that followed, he garnered a variety of private sector experience, including financial and mortgage management, retail management, education, and as a musician. His career with USDA Rural Development began in 2009 and includes experience with several agency programs taking place in Montana, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. His current role with National Headquarters directs efforts of marketing, training, and outreach for lenders and partners of the Single Family Guaranteed Housing Program.

Seth specializes in mortgage servicing rights (MSRs), servicing, cash flows, liquidity and mortgage profitability strategies.  Prior to joining STRATMOR, Seth served as EVP of Trading & Analytics at PHOENIX, a mortgage advisory firm.  Seth also served as SVP—Servicing Asset Manager at SunTrust Mortgage for more than 10 years, where he led the servicing rights valuation team.  In 2018, Seth was selected as Secretary of the MBA’s Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) Society and serves on several committees with the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA).  Seth is a frequent speaker at various MBA and other industry conferences, often speaking on liquidity and the overall challenges present in the mortgage industry. A veteran of over twenty five years in the housing arena, Bill is responsible for managing the real estate finance industry's legislative, grassroots, and political fundraising activities, in close coordination with the MBA member leadership and its public policy and lobbying teams.     Pete Mills is Senior Vice President of Residential Policy and Member Engagement at the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). In this position, he leads MBA's residential policy team and state and local advocacy program, and directs MBA's residential member engagement efforts across the MBA value platform.  Mills is an experienced financial services industry executive with more than 30 years of expertise in public affairs, government relations, public policy and research, all in the housing and mortgage finance arena. Prior to joining MBA, he served as Managing Director and co-founder of the Community Mortgage Banking Project, a public policy organization that represented the interests of companies and coalitions involved in the housing and mortgage finance industries.  During his career, Mills lead corporate public affairs for Countrywide Financial, managed trade association policy advocacy for the California Mortgage Bankers Association and the California Association of Realtors, and conducted housing policy research at the Federal Reserve Board.

    The Honorable Len Wolfson, Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development

    Len Wolfson was nominated by President Trump to serve as Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 22, 2017. A HUD veteran, he brings with him more than 20 years of experience in the public and private sectors. He mostly recently served as the Associate Vice President for Legislative Affairs at MBA. In that capacity, he was responsible for formulating and implementing the mortgage industry’s legislative agenda on a wide array of issues including housing finance reform, the Dodd-Frank Act, and tax policy. Before joining MBA, Wolfson served at HUD during the Bush Administration from 2005 to 2008 as the General Deputy Assistance Secretary for Congressional Relations. Wolfson began his political career in 1996 on the staff of Representative Christopher Shays (R-CT), his hometown congressman. He also worked on the Bush-Cheney campaign in 2004.
