    QC experts identify the top operational risk areas for servicers and recommend how to ensure adequate quality control.  These risk areas include vendor management, customer handling and response, ancillary fees loss mitigation and more.  The panel also recommends ways to organize QC and oversight at a time when servicing costs are being scrutinized.

    James Shankle, Managing Director, CrossCheck Compliance, LLC

    Jim Shankle is a highly experienced financial services executive with over twenty five years in both industry and consulting roles within financial institutions, ranging from community banks to large money center institutions as well as numerous non-depository entities such as mortgage originators, loan servicers and fintech companies. His senior management responsibilities have included financial and IT audits, regulatory compliance, strategic planning, quality assurance, staff training and development. Jim’s role as managing director with CrossCheck is to provide various consulting related services and expertise to financial services clients nationwide. Prior to CrossCheck, Jim provided regulatory compliance and internal audit expertise for clients as a financial institutions services director at Jefferson Wells International. He has held various senior management positions including chief audit executive at an Ohio based savings bank and he spent three years in the former Soviet Union assisting with banking privatization efforts in the newly formed independent states. Jim began his career at Banc One Corporation (JP Morgan Chase) where he was responsible for the financial audit and regulatory compliance functions of the corporate audit division. Jim is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and has written on topics such as mortgage servicing, internal audit and bank/fintech partnerships.

    Wade Mjelde, Vice President, Servicing QC Division, TENA Companies, Inc.

    Wade Mjelde is Vice President of Loan Servicing Quality Control for TENA Companies, Inc. Wade led the design and development team that was responsible for establishing the audit protocols and testing scripts for TENA’s initial Loan Servicing QC audit process. He now has management oversight responsibility for all aspects of the firm’s Loan Servicing QC audit functions. Wade also consults with loan servicers and sub-servicers regarding methodologies that will assist them in establishing and utilizing QC protocols to monitor and enhance their existing loan servicing processes. Previous to his current position, Wade served as both a post-closing and a loan servicing Mortgage Quality Control Auditor, as a mortgage loan forensic fraud investigator, and as manager of TENA’s Fraud and Special Services Division. He also has extensive experience as a lecturer and trainer, frequently addressing QC topics that relate to mortgage loan pre-funding, post-closing, servicing, and forensic investigation functions.

    Mark A. Atencio, Executive Consultant, Lyons McCloskey, LLC

    Mark Atencio, currently servicing the mortgage industry as an Executive Consultant with Lyons McCloskey LLC, has been in the financial services industry for more than 25 years focusing on mortgage servicing and origination. He was with Ditech for 16 years, a top 20 national originator and top 10 national servicer with over 2.1M customers with serviced UPB of $265B GSE, Ginnie Mae and private investor products. He served as Senior Vice President of servicing Risk and Business Control with oversight including quality assurance, change management, policy and procedure, law firm oversight, letters and forms management, project management, due diligence, client and contract management and rating agency evaluations.

    Mark is a Six Sigma Master Black Belt and provided proactive leadership and consultation to identify, design and implement initiatives that achieved sustained productivity and customer satisfaction improvements. His previous positions include Chief Credit Officer and other senior management positions managing servicing and origination operations for Bank of America, PNC Mortgage, KB Home Mortgage as well as other banking and mortgage companies. 

    Mark served as Chair of the Mortgage Bankers Association (“MBA”) Loan Administration Committee as well as on many committees and work groups including Law Firm Oversight, Servicing Transfers, Servicing Compensatory Fees and Servicing Remedies. He continues to develop and maintain key relationships across the industry including agency and regulatory personnel to develop and forward initiatives or improvements. He is a frequent speaker at various conferences and has been an instructor within the MBA’s continuing education program. He enjoys mentoring and building individuals, teams and companies to achieve results beyond perceived limitations. His personal interests are his family, running, tennis, skiing, volunteering in the community and serving as a youth sports coach.

    Jennifer Greear, Business Liaison Manager, Vice President Servicing – Claims and Default Accounts Payable, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage

    Jennifer Greear is a Business Liaison Manager at Wells Fargo in Des Moines, IA.  She joined Wells Fargo in 1998 and during her more than 20 years in the mortgage industry, she has had a consistent specialty in FHA Claims operations. During the past few years, she has expanded her focus to incorporate additional investor/insurer portfolios. 

    Jennifer currently leads a team that specializes in guideline implementation and interpretation within the Claims organization.  Her scope includes FHA, FNMA, FHLMC, VA, and USDA portfolios.  She and her team of consultants partner across Servicing to align interpretation and implement best practices.    In addition, Jennifer and her team collaborate on enhancements to policy and policy interpretation.
