  • Residential Breakout Session: Future of the GSEs

Mark A. Jones, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, AmeriFirst Home Mortgage

Philip DeFronzo, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Norcom Mortgage

    Read more Read less

Absent unforeseen circumstances that would spur Congress to action, the momentum behind comprehensive GSE reform legislation is waning.  Moreover, a possible change in political control within Congress makes action in 2019 uncertain at best.  To move forward on the last remaining element of post crisis reform, MBA has appointed a Task Force to evaluate alternative approaches to accomplishing needed reforms to the GSEs – reforms that would lock-in recent positive changes, preserve aspects of the agencies that continue to function well, and reform those aspects that continue to pose risks to taxpayers and the stability of the housing finance system.  In this session, Task Force members highlight alternatives under consideration that are consistent with MBA’s comprehensive plan, but that could be accomplished through administrative actions and/or more narrowly focused legislation (so-called “skinny” reform).
