    David K. Stein is a partner at Bricker & Eckler LLP and chairs the firm's Banking & Consumer Financial Services Practice Group. David maintains a national practice in this area. David has spent more than two decades advising lenders as in-house and outside counsel. The core of his practice is banking and lending compliance, marketing and sales practices, regulatory examinations, investigations and litigation, including enforcement actions and defense of consumer claims. David approaches his role with the unique perspective of having previously founded and directed a large national lender. He is able to advise his clients on comprehensive management strategies for growth and development. His work has allowed his clients to develop best practices in sales and marketing, obtain agency and governmental approvals, implement proactive compliance management systems, avoid liability in governmental enforcement actions and investigations, negotiate superior secondary market terms and achieve success in the funding, sale and securitization of pooled and whole loans. Magazine in 2015 and 2016, he is a nationally recognized speaker, and frequently trains companies in matters concerning advertising and social media, sales practices, fair lending, and compliance and vendor management.

    Kristina Larese, Vice President and Assistant General Counsel, Fifth Third Bank

    Kristina Larese serves as Assistant General Counsel and Vice President at Fifth Third Bank headquartered in Cincinnati, OH. As the leader of a team of legal professionals whose primary responsibility is the support of the Bank’s residential mortgage line of business, Ms. Larese concentrates their focus on delivering actionable legal guidance in their support of secondary market transactions, correspondent operations and residential mortgage origination and servicing activities. With 18 years of residential mortgage industry experience, Ms. Larese developed an expertise in the operational aspects of mortgage banking including systems, risk and compliance controls, and data security to ensure that legal guidance provided serves as a valuable foundation for the development of executable operational, compliance and risk management strategies.

    Dominique-Chantale Alepin, Assistant Director, Western Region, Federal Trade Commission

    Dominique-Chantale Alepin is the Assistant Director for the Federal Trade Commission’s Western Region, stationed in Los Angeles. She oversees a team of attorneys, investigators and support staff in the investigation and litigation of consumer protection matters. Ms. Alepin has worked on cases involving fintech, cyberfraud, student loans, advertising, and online retail sales. Prior to being appointed to the FTC, she was a senior attorney with two Bay Area law firms representing tech companies in high stakes litigation and investigations.

    Kathleen “Kitty” Ryan, Partner, Akerman LLP

    Kathleen is a partner at Akerman LLP where she advises clients on a broad range of consumer protection issues.  She was a Deputy Assistant Director for the CFPB’s Office of Regulations, and Senior Counsel at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C.  During her government tenure, Kathleen wrote and interpreted major consumer regulations applicable to mortgages, including changes to Regulation Z’s advertising rules in 2009.  Kathleen also has extensive experience in fair lending and UDAAP matters.
