    Thomas Kearney joined Akerman from the CFPB's Office of Regulations, where he led the team responsible for the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act rulemakings. During his years at the CFPB he was also substantially involved in the TRID/KBYO and ATR/QM rulemakings and worked on CFPB outreach efforts regarding the Dodd-Frank Act Title XIV rulemakings.  Thomas now assists lenders, investors, financial technology companies, and service providers with navigating the wide range of challenges that arise under financial services laws, including TILA, HMDA, ECOA, FCRA, RESPA, UDAAP, and licensing issues.

    John Haring serves as the Director of Product Management Ellie Mae® (NYSE: ELLI), a leading provider of enterprise level, on-demand automated solutions for the residential mortgage industry. He is responsible for facilitating the implementation and maintenance of residential mortgage lending compliance and industry changes across Ellie Mae’s various software applications, systems, and residential mortgage loan documents. Prior to joining Ellie Mae, he served as the vice president of compliance for Supreme Lending, and has spent the better part of the last decade supporting banks, lenders and brokers in keeping up with significant regulatory changes impacting the mortgage industry. In 2015 Haring was named one of HousingWire’s Rising Stars in recognition for his accomplishments in helping the industry prepare for implementing “Know Before You Owe”.

    Melissa Kozicki is director of compliance with Mortgage Builder® an Altisource Business Unit. She has over 20 years experience in the mortgage banking industry, specializing in compliance and operations.  Kozicki is a member of multiple mortgage associations and committees, and her contributions have been recognized as past recipient of the MMBA Distinguished Faculty of the Year award and honored as one of the 2015 Elite Women in Mortgage. Kozicki is the author of numerous publications and training courses, including federal compliance content for NMLS-certified continuing education courses.

    Leslie Sowers, Partner, Weiner Brodsky Kider PC

    Leslie A. Sowers is a Partner with Weiner Brodsky Kider PC and focuses on federal regulatory and compliance matters related to the financial services industry. Leslie advises financial institutions and mortgage companies on the requirements of the Dodd-Frank Act, RESPA, TILA, the TILA RESPA Integrated Disclosures (TRID) Rule, as well as on loan originator compensation requirements, and other consumer finance regulatory matters. She works with companies to comply with ECOA, HMDA, and other fair lending and fair housing requirements. Additionally, Leslie regularly guides companies through the complexities of FCRA, GLBA, and other privacy matters. Leslie also assists companies in preparing for and successfully navigating supervisory examinations, develops compliance policies and procedures, and prepares complex regulatory analyses of residential mortgage lending and servicing matters.
