    As lenders look to compete in the construction loan and value add space and as catastrophes cause servicers and asset managers to manage rehab, it is prudent to understand the risks involved with seeing a construction project through. This learning lab covers the risks involved in construction servicing and the surveillance that will assist you in managing  loans and properties with a construction element.


    Patrick Dahnert, Director & Partner, Essex Financial Services LLC

    Patrick joined Essex in 2009 as Vice President and was promoted to Director and Partner in 2011. He is responsible for all aspects of Essex’s operation, business strategy and resource management.  Patrick joined Essex after five years at Capmark Finance where he served as Assistant Vice President.  He was responsible for management and oversight of $12.6 billion of CMBS and life company servicing.  Patrick began his career at First Arizona Savings in 2002 in the construction loan servicing department.

    Patrick received his BS-Business Management & Finance from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY where he was also a student athlete on the tennis team. Patrick participates in ongoing leadership training through the Mortgage Bankers Association.  He also received his certification as a Project Management Professional in 2015.

    Bonnie Hochman Rothell, Partner, Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP

    Bonnie Hochman Rothell is the Chair of the Litigation Practice at Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP and serves on the firm’s Executive and Management Committees. Ms. Hochman Rothell has first chaired hundreds of litigation matters throughout the U.S. and has prosecuted and defended appeals to the United States Supreme Court. Her clients include banks and institutional lenders, developers, holding companies, government agencies, public housing authorities, government contractors, entrepreneurs, commercial enterprises, foreign corporations and individuals. Ms. Hochman Rothell has unique expertise in matters involving HUD, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, USDA, GNMA and private lending and mortgage originating and servicing. Her advice and guidance is often sought prior to litigation in an effort to engage in risk management strategies and litigation avoidance. She has handled numerous creditors’ rights, lender liability types of claims, construction disputes and has extensive experience with defaulted loans, including the FHA assignment process. She frequently consults with clients on construction lending and servicing issues. In addition to an active litigation practice, Ms. Hochman Rothell is a certified mediator and has been actively involved in numerous pro bono pursuits and has served on various boards and commissions.
