    For over 17 years, Mike Fontaine has played a key role in the evolution and success of Plaza Home Mortgage. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company’s businesses and financial management, including strategic planning, Capital Markets and Servicing operations. Mike is a member of Freddie Mac’s Advisory Committee, the CMBA’s Board of Directors and holds the Certified Mortgage Banker designation from the MBA. A Certified Public Accountant, Mike has a bachelor’s degree in Management Science from the University of California, San Diego and a Master of Science Degree in Accountancy from San Diego State University.

    Michael McAuley, Principal, Garrett, McAuley & Co.

    Michael D. McAuley is a Principal of Garrett, McAuley & Co., a banking and mortgage banking consulting firm that “helps lenders increase revenues, control costs and better manage risk.”  Mike has more than twenty years of commercial banking experience in financing mortgage bankers, homebuilders, and related firms, most recently at JP Morgan Chase. Mike managed the warehouse lending business for Washington Mutual and JP Morgan Chase and was formerly in mortgage banker finance and lending at the Irving Trust Company and Bank United of Texas.   He provides consulting services to mortgage bankers, regulators, and other industry professionals, and he has helped commercial banks establish, assess, and improve their mortgage warehouse lending operations. Mike is a graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.; a past chairman of the RMA Warehouse Lenders Roundtable; member of the Warehouse Lending Subcommittee at the Texas Mortgage Bankers Association; and a Graduate with Distinction, Willis Bryant Award finalist, and Lecturer at the School of Mortgage Banking.

    Eric Gates, President, Apex Home Loans Inc.

    Eric Gates co-founded Apex Home Loans in 1998 with the goal of maximizing the customer service and integrity of a local Mortgage company while giving back to the communities served. With almost 30 years of experience in the mortgage industry, Eric has earned a reputation as a knowledgeable, responsive and trustworthy residential mortgage professional.  Eric has been involved in managing mortgage operations since 1996 and as the President of Apex, he currently oversees many of the company’s operational functions, including Compliance, Technology and Investor Relations. Eric’s interest in giving back to the mortgage industry and the local community has spurred his involvement in a multitude of organizations. Eric is a former President of the Maryland Association of Mortgage Professionals, served for two years as the Co-Chair of the MBA’s Independent Mortgage Bankers’ Network, is a member of the MBA’s Independent Mortgage Bankers Executive Council, is a member of MBA’s Residential Board of Governors and currently serves on the MBA’s Board. Eric also served 8 years as a Board Member of The Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce and served the Chamber for two years as the Vice President of Leadership Development. He is a graduate of Leadership Montgomery and once chaired the Montgomery County Advisory Board for Junior Achievement.  Under his leadership, Apex has been recognized with numerous company awards, including Best Places To Work by the Washington Business Journal and Washingtonian Magazine, Montgomery County Small Business of the Year and the Montgomery County Serves Business of the Year for Apex’s charitable and community service contributions. Eric holds a B.A. in Economics from Tufts University and lives in Potomac, MD with his wife Amy, their three children and their dog Fenway.

    Terry Schmidt, CMB, President, Guild Mortgage Company

    Terry Schmidt started at Guild Mortgage in 1985 and has been a member of the company’s board of directors since 2006. As president, Ms. Schmidt oversees Guild’s finance, human resources, capital markets and compliance departments. She led efforts to establish the Guild Giving Foundation, designed to encourage volunteerism among Guild’s nearly 4,000 employees.  Ms. Schmidt has helped the company grow to become one of the nation’s largest and most-respected independent mortgage lenders. She increased and improved access to financing during a record-breaking growth period in Guild’s nearly 60-year history and has helped increase Guild’s national market share every year since the leadership team launched the company’s long-term, strategic growth plan in 2008.
