    David H. Stevens is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). Prior to assuming this position, he served as the Assistant Secretary for Housing and Federal Housing Commissioner at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Stevens has more than 30 years of experience in mortgage finance and has held several executive level positions in sales, acquisition, investment, risk management and regulatory oversight, including positions in senior management with Wells Fargo, Freddie Mac and World Savings. Prior to his appointment by the Obama Administration to serve at HUD, Stevens was President and COO of the Long and Foster Companies. He is known inside the Beltway as a key housing influential, serving as an industry authority on major mortgage finance legislative and regulatory issues. He is often quoted in the national media and regularly appears in trade media on issues affecting the mortgage and housing markets.

    Pete Mills , Senior Vice President of Residential Policy and Member Services , Mortgage Bankers Association

    Pete Mills is Senior Vice President of Residential Policy and Member Services at the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). In this position, he leads MBA’s residential policy team and also leads efforts to enhance MBA’s residential member engagement, retention and recruitment, as well as the association’s state and local advocacy programs. Mills is an experienced financial services industry executive with 30 years of expertise in public affairs, government relations, public policy and research, all in the housing and mortgage finance arena. Most recently, he served as Managing Director of the Community Mortgage Banking Project, a public policy organization that represents the interests of companies and coalitions involved in the housing and mortgage finance industries. During his career, Mills lead corporate public affairs for Countrywide Financial, managed trade association policy advocacy for the California Mortgage Bankers Association and the California Association of Realtors, and conducted housing policy research at the Federal Reserve Board. He has a BA in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley, where he graduated with distinction in 1982.

    William Kooper is Vice President of State Government Affairs and Industry Relations at the Mortgage Bankers Association and in that capacity leads MBA’s advocacy efforts at the state and local level as well as MBA’s engagement with mortgage banking associations across the country. William leads MBA’s State Relations Initiative and staffs its State Relations Committee; MBA’s program to partner with state associations to align business development, communications and advocacy interests. William joined MBA in January 2001 as Director of Government Affairs, and has had a variety of roles assisting MBA members. Before leading the state program, he was Associate Vice President of Legislative and Political Affairs where he directed MBA’s nationwide grassroots advocacy program, the Mortgage Action Alliance, Inc. and the planning and execution of MBA’s National Advocacy Conference. He also served as staff to MBA’s political action committee, MORPAC. Prior to joining MBA, William was appointed by President Bill Clinton as Special Assistant and Briefing Coordinator to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Andrew Cuomo. At HUD, William prepared the Secretary’s daily event briefings, wrote the Secretary’s weekly report to the President and also made contributions to Presidential and Vice Presidential briefing documents.  William’s other positions in and out of government have included Manager of Government Relations at HIP Health Plans in New York City, Senior Legislative Associate to the New York State Assembly Committee on Health, Research Analyst for the New York State Assembly’s Council on Health Care Financing, and Confidential Assistant to New York Governor Mario Cuomo. William was born in New York City and raised in Newtown, Connecticut. He received his MPA with a concentration in management from New York University in 1991 and his BA in International Affairs from Trinity University in 1986. William also studied at the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom and attended the Chase Collegiate School in Waterbury, CT.

    Dustin Hobbs has been the Communications Director for the California Mortgage Bankers Association since 2004.  He is responsible for all internal and external communications, including media relations/response, marketing, member engagement, publications, and more.  Prior to that, Dustin worked in the California Legislature and on various local, statewide, and nationally-targeted political campaigns.  He graduated magna cum laude from California Baptist University in 2003 with degrees in political science and journalism, and received his MBA from California State University, Sacramento.  A Northern California native, he resides in the Sacramento area with his wife and three children.

    John Seroka is a Principal at Seroka Brand Development which provides brand development, marketing, public relations, social media and digital strategies to companies throughout the mortgage industry. In his role, he is responsible for spearheading agency growth initiatives and working in collaboration with his team to promote the latest in communications technologies, methodologies and strategies to current clients and the mortgage industry. Additionally, John is an active member of the MBA and the California MBA and serves as co-Chairman of the California MBA Mortgage Technology and Marketing Committee.

    Tony Thompson, III, CMB is Vice President of Growth & Strategy for Silverton Mortgage, the largest privately held lender in Georgia and one of the fastest growing mortgage lenders in the Southeast. Mr. Thompson is responsible for the strategy and sales growth of the company. Prior to joining Silverton Mortgage, he was the Southeast Regional Manager for Guaranteed Rate. While under his leadership, his region became one of the fastest growing regions within the company. Over the last 10 years in the industry, he has personally hired over 500 loan originators. Mr. Thompson is a member of the MBA Diversity Committee, MBA Loan Production Committee, Georgia Mortgage Bankers Association Board of Governor’s and a graduate of the MBA’s Future Leaders Program.     L. Maria Zywiciel , President , NAHREP Consulting Services

    Luz Maria (Maria) Zywiciel is President of NAHREP Consulting Services (NCS), a marketing consulting firm specializing in the Hispanic segment and housing industry.  Prior to joining NCS Maria held senior management roles at Citibank, most recently as National Director of Strategic Markets. In this role, she led a team responsible for Diverse Markets, Community Reinvestment (CRA) and Fair Lending efforts for over 1200 bank branches nationally. With over twenty years of financial industry experience, she has a broad knowledge of the financial industry while serving large institutions such as Citi, Prudential/Wachovia, and Edward Jones.  Her expertise in how cultural nuances factor into buying decisions and consumer behaviors has been a critical factor to successful strategies for financial service companies reaching diverse markets.  Her bilingual and bicultural background has contributed to success in both the Anglo and Hispanic markets and in understanding the needs of underserved populations. Maria holds a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations and a Master's Degree in Marketing.

    Maria is a regular contributor to industry publications, including monthly columns in RISMedia. In 2014, Maria was featured in Hispanic Executive Magazine for her work with Community Reinvestment, and in 2012 she was featured in MReport Magazine (a mortgage trade publication) as a leading mortgage professional in her field. In 2006 was awarded the “40 under 40”, a recognition by the St. Louis Business Journal and was named commissioner to the Missouri Governor's Advisory Council of Hispanic Affairs in 2004.  She is also past Executive Director of The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, board member of The Hispanic Alliance of Career Enhancement (HACE); past National Chairwoman for the Corporate Board of Governors for The National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP).  Maria is a native of Chicago and currently resides in St. Charles, MO.

    Tamara King , Vice President of Residential Policy and Member Engagement , Mortgage Bankers Association

    Tamara King is Vice President of Residential Policy and Member Engagement. She manages MBA's residential loan production area where she helps direct the association's policy development on regulatory, legislative, and industry issues. Additionally, she helps lead MBA's engagement strategy with several key member segments. In this role, Ms. King also oversees MBA's Independent Mortgage Bankers Executive Council, the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the Warehouse Lenders Executive Roundtable, and other MBA networking groups.  Tamara has extensive experience in mortgage finance, community development, and state and local governments. Previously, Tamara was a Senior Business Manager for Manufactured Housing in Fannie Mae's Single-Family Mortgage Business. In this role, Tamara was responsible for developing and managing new initiatives and products, and developing business and strategic relationships with manufactured-housing participants. Tamara's other positions have included Vice President of Community Development at HSBC Bank in New York, Director of the New Homes Program at the New York City Housing Partnership, Senior Project Planner in the New York City Mayor's Office of Operations, and Senior Budget Examiner in the New York State Department of the Budget.

    Industry Political Action Committees help support elected officials who support the real estate finance industry’s policy goals. State PACs and federal PACs are two separate and distinct bodies held to different rules and regulations, but the foundation of establishing, operating and growing any PAC is the same. This “MiniSession” will offer best practices in PAC operations and also briefly walk through engagement opportunities state associations can offer their members to become engaged in MBA’s federal PAC, MORPAC.

    Alden Knowlton , Director of Political Affairs , Mortgage Bankers Association

    Alden currently serves as the Director of Political Affairs for the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) where she oversees the PAC (MORPAC) and Grassroots Advocacy (Mortgage Action Alliance) programs of the association, including the development and execution of an over $2 million/cycle fundraising and federal disbursement plan, direction of all grassroots activities including industry “Calls to Action,” and management of the annual National Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C.  She also serves as one of MBA’s key contacts within the PAC community and political party organizations.

    She previously served as the ACRE® (PAC) Manager at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), where she managed all aspects of the ACRE® and ACRE Co-op Owners for Political Action® outreach programs, serving as lead facilitator for statewide associations and local rural electric cooperatives in the creation of ACRE strategic planning efforts.  She planned and implemented an annual ACRE workshop to train local and statewide ACRE staff, ensuring compliance of ACRE programs with federal law, developing innovative strategies for marketing and promoting ACRE at both the national and local cooperative level.

    She led a 50th Anniversary marketing and fundraising campaign that incorporated an accelerated peer to peer outreach strategic plan among national leadership, resulting in a program record $3.8 million raised from over 35,000 individual contributors giving an average of $59 in the 2016 election cycle. During her tenure, she generated a 47% increase in PAC memberships among electric cooperative member-owners, with over 11,000 members at over 100 cooperatives contributing via their electric bill.

    Prior to NRECA, she worked for 5 ½ years consulting on political campaigns, providing fundraising and campaign strategy services for Congressional incumbents and candidates.

    Originally from Charleston, SC, she attended college at Sewanee: The University of the South in Tennessee, where she played basketball.  She currently resides in Washington, DC.

    PJ Harrigan CMB, AMP is the Vice President of Sale for the Western Division of Radian Guaranty.  Prior to Radian, Harrigan spent 24 years in the correspondent space.  PJ is a graduate of the both the MBA’s School of Mortgage Banking and Future Leaders Program.  Harrigan is the former Chair of the Mortgage Action Alliance and the CMB Society.  He has served on the past six cycles of the MORPAC Steering Committee, and was awarded the Schumacher Bolduc Award by the MBA for his MORPAC fund raising.  PJ holds a BSBA from Iowa State University and a MPA from Drake University.  PJ and his wife, Amy Swaney Harrigan CMB, live in Scottsdale, AZ with their four children.  PJ is actively involved in his church and fund raising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. 

    Todd Potter, CMB , Senior Vice President, National Correspondent Sales Manager , Envoy Mortgage

    With nearly 25 years’ experience in the Mortgage Banking industry, Todd began his career in Housing Finance with The Associates Financial Services as a Finance Representative in Lexington, KY in the mid 1990’s.  He spent the first ten years of his career in the Retail Channel, mainly focusing on Residential, Commercial and Community Banking in his home state of Michigan.  In 2004, Todd moved into the Correspondent channel beginning with Countrywide then onto Chase and Affiliated Mortgage.  In March of 2013, Todd took on the role of National Correspondent Sales Manager with Envoy Mortgage and helped build Envoy’s Correspondent Division from the ground up.  His position with Envoy provides him the opportunity to attend several State/Regional/National mortgage conferences each year.  Todd proudly earned the designation of Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) in 2014 and currently serves as the 2017 Secretary/Treasurer of the Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association.

    Sara L. Wood, MBA, CAE , Account Executive , Management Solutions Plus, Inc.

    Sara L. Wood joined MSP in 2016 after spending more than a decade at the National Court Reporters Association, where she most recently served as the director of membership and marketing. Throughout her association career she has gained a wide range of experience with multiple areas of association management, and her professional passions include strategic planning, leadership development, and digital marketing. Sara received her Certified Association Executive (CAE) certification in 2012. An active member with the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), she is the Education Subcommittee chair on the Membership Section Council. Additionally, she was selected to be part of ASAE's NextGen class of 2016. Sara holds a bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of Mary Washington and an MBA from the Saunders College of Business of Rochester Institute of Technology.

    Joanne Misuraca , Executive Director , Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association

    Joanne is the Executive Director of the Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association (MMLA), a position she has held for nearly 20 years!  Joanne oversees her staff (1 part-time admin.) and consultants and works with all of the MMLA’s volunteers at the state and local levels.  In doing so, she also handles the daily operations of the association and ensures the MMLA member experience is the best it can be.  The MMLA was established in 1929 and currently is 1593 members strong.  Joanne is a graduate of the school of hard knocks!

    Alan Thorup has been the Executive Director of the Indiana Mortgage Banker's Association since February of 2008, the Kentucky Mortgage Bankers Association since January of 2016, and Louisville since February of 2017. He has been a volunteer board member of IMBA’s Greater Indianapolis Chapter for 4 years and IMBA’s State Board for 3 years, prior to becoming Executive Director.  Mr. Thoroup has 24 years direct mortgage lending experience in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. He has personal mortgage loan originations of over 1,600 loans and has managed over $1.5B in mortgage loan production.

    He has a BBA from Eastern Michigan University and MBA from Xavier University.  He has been a Fishers, Indiana resident since 2000, and has two grown children.  He has served as a Board Member with Habitat for Humanity of Indiana since 2009, and was elected President of the Board in 2016.  He is also a  board member with mortgage industry education provider Diehl & Associates.

    Joshua Wolfe , Executive Director , Maine Association of Mortgage Professionals

    Joshua Wolfe currently serves as the Executive Director of the Maine Association of Mortgage Professionals (MAMP). Prior to working in the mortgage industry, Josh worked as an independent consultant and facilitator for both the federal government and private organizations with a focus in social service projects.  

    As the Executive Director for MAMP, Josh has fostered an environment that has resulted in consistent submission of applications for new membership, higher attendance at association events, and has increased the association’s yearly revenue significantly. In addition, Mr. Wolfe has worked hard to bridge the gap between the mortgage industry and millennials by collaborating with local communities and universities. He has also had success in growing the organizations philanthropic outreach by creating opportunities for MAMP’s membership to volunteer in and around the state of Maine.

    In his free time, Josh operates his own consulting business called JW Business Solutions where he enjoys helping clients achieve success in areas of social media marketing, website design, strategic planning, and association management. He attended the University of Southern Maine where he concentrated on Leadership and Organizational Studies.

    Jordan Bucher , Regulatory Assistant , Mortgage Bankers Association

    Jordan Bucher is a Regulatory Assistant on MBA’s State Government Affairs Team within the Residential Public Policy Division. In this capacity, she assists in MBA's advocacy efforts at the state and local level as well as MBA's engagement with mortgage banking associations across the country. Jordan also helps lead MBA’s newest initiative – mPact – a network designed for young professionals within the real estate finance industry that is intended to provide opportunities for the next generation to engage and connect with industry peers and develop professional skills. Prior to joining MBA full-time in December 2016, Jordan served as a research and industry technology intern and as a public policy intern within the Association during the summers of 2015 and 2016, respectively.

     A native of Rochester, Minnesota, Jordan earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing with a concentration in international business from the University of Iowa in May 2016. She completed parts of her studies at the University of Havana in Havana, Cuba, and the University of Westminster in London. Throughout her college tenure, Jordan held a variety of journalism and public relations-related roles, including working as a reporter for The Daily Iowan, a nationally-acclaimed student newspaper, before accepting a communications position within the University of Iowa’s Athletic Department, where she handled the media and public relations for the University’s cross country and track and field teams during her junior and senior years.

    Daniel M. Burstein oversees the Financial Institutions practice for Guidepost Solutions. He has more than 12 years of experience in the areas of regulatory investigations and enforcement, regulatory compliance, commercial litigation, and internal investigations.  Before joining Guidepost, Mr. Burstein served as Executive Deputy Superintendent and Acting Chief of Staff for the New York State Department of Financial Services. He headed the Department’s Real Estate Finance Division, which is responsible for regulation of the state’s mortgage industry as well as other real estate and homeowner industries such as title insurance and mortgage insurance. In addition to negotiating major enforcement actions, Mr. Burstein’s projects for the Department included reviewing non-bank mortgage servicers, reforming the state’s foreclosure process, standardizing maintenance of vacant properties, licensing title insurance agents, overhauling the mortgage licensing process, and helping consumers and businesses recover from Superstorm Sandy.  Mr. Burstein focuses on assisting clients with investigations, regulatory compliance, and independent monitoring and consulting.

    Tim Lange , Senior Director , Conference of State Bank Supervisors

    Tim Lange currently serves as Senior Director with the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) which he joined in 2008.  In this role, Tim’s duties have included managing system policy and development for NMLS, the legal system of record for mortgage and other non-depository financial services regulation.  

    Prior to joining CSBS, Tim worked in the securities industry for ten years specializing in fixed income sales and trading. 

    A native of Chicago, Tim holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in accounting from Loyola University Chicago and a Master of Public Administration degree from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.

    The Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) is the nationwide organization of financial regulators from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

    State regulators supervise approximately 5,000 state-chartered financial institutions with more than $4.9 trillion in combined assets. Further, most state banking departments oversee mortgage providers and many other financial services providers, such as money services businesses (MSBs), payday lenders, check cashers, and finance companies. State regulators license 16,022 mortgage companies, 131,725 individual mortgage loan originators (MLOs), and more than 138,000 additional non-depository financial services providers across the nation.

    Scott Nowak, Esq. , Associate Director, State Government Affairs , Mortgage Bankers Association

    Scott Nowak is Assistant Director of State Government Affairs at the Mortgage Bankers Association. In that capacity, he manages MBA’s advocacy efforts at the state and local level as well as MBA’s engagement with state mortgage banking associations across the country. Scott also supports the needs of MBA member firms through management of MBA’s Residential Board of Governors (RESBOG) and as the lead staff representative to MBA’s State Legislative and Regulatory Committee (SLRC). Scott has played a leading role in key MBA advocacy campaigns, including the fight to prevent mortgage seizures through eminent domain utilization; efforts to streamline state industry licensing requirements, namely state adoption of the Uniform State Test and transitional licensing standards for mortgage loan originators; efforts to prevent state-specific mortgage servicing and ability-to-repay laws that would conflict with federal policy; and the fight to prevent private liens from obtaining priority over a mortgage, despite the private lien’s junior recordation. Further, he is the principal author of Principles to Expedite the Foreclosure Process for Vacant and Abandoned Properties — an MBA working group white paper currently being used in policymaker discussions nationwide to help states implement responsible expedited foreclosure processes for vacant and abandoned properties. His efforts have included in-depth legislative analysis and bill drafting, the writing of advocacy letters, public speaking engagements, and coalition building and strategy development amongst key parties. Prior to joining MBA, Scott was the law clerk to U.S. Senator John McCain, where his responsibilities included legal analysis on a host of legislative issues, including federal expenditures, corporate financial management, and federal nominations. Scott was also a law clerk at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), where he focused on ways the EPA could reassure businesses and local governments that they would not be held liable under federal law for contaminated properties they subsequently acquired and rehabilitated. Most recently, Scott was a legislative consultant to a state legislative tracking firm, where he monitored and reviewed research for clients on bills concerning commerce, markets, and resources issues in all state legislatures and in the District of Columbia. Scott was born in Alexandria, Virginia and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He received his B.A. in International Relations from Michigan State University and his Juris Doctor from Michigan State’s College of Law, where he also served as Managing Editor for the Michigan State Journal of International Law. Scott is admitted to practice law before the state bar of Illinois.

    David H. Stevens is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). Prior to assuming this position, he served as the Assistant Secretary for Housing and Federal Housing Commissioner at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Stevens has more than 30 years of experience in mortgage finance and has held several executive level positions in sales, acquisition, investment, risk management and regulatory oversight, including positions in senior management with Wells Fargo, Freddie Mac and World Savings. Prior to his appointment by the Obama Administration to serve at HUD, Stevens was President and COO of the Long and Foster Companies. He is known inside the Beltway as a key housing influential, serving as an industry authority on major mortgage finance legislative and regulatory issues. He is often quoted in the national media and regularly appears in trade media on issues affecting the mortgage and housing markets.

    Congressman Pete Aguilar (D-CA) , Whip of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Appropriations Committee

    Pete Aguilar represents the 31st Congressional District of California. He was re-elected in 2016 and serves on the House Appropriations Committee. In the 115th Congress, Rep. Aguilar holds the leadership positions of Whip of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and is an Assistant Whip in the House Democratic Caucus.

    Raising his family in the community his family has called home for four generations, Representative Aguilar understands the challenges that Inland Empire families face today. He started his first job at the age of twelve, working with his grandfather at the San Bernardino County Courthouse cafeteria. He then put himself through college with the assistance of student loans and federal grants, and later established a life in public service to give back to his community.

    Rodrigo López, Chairman-Elect of the Mortgage Bankers Association, is the Executive Chairman of NorthMarq Capital Finance, L.L.C., a mortgage banking company dedicated to providing capital solutions for the multifamily industry. Rodrigo has been actively involved with MBA for almost three decades. He is a former Chairman of MBA's Commercial/Multifamily Board of Governors. He has served on the Association's Board of Directors since 2009, along with a previous stint on the board in 2003 and 2004.
