- James Baublitz, CFA, Senior Hedge Manager, Compass Analytics
James manages Pipeline and MSR clients and assists with the development of the Compass Analytics MSR cash flow and pipeline risk management models. His current responsibilities include hedging the pipeline risk for a number of large mortgage originators, helping clients optimize their loan sale and pooling strategies, assisting with MSR model client training and development, and providing software demonstrations for prospective clients. Through previous positions held at Boenning & Scattergood and Wells Fargo, James has more than 7 years of combined capital markets experience. James is a graduate of Susquehanna University and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
- Kyle Bensen, CMB, CMSP, Business Partner Manager, MGIC
Kyle is responsible for establishing and maintaining mortgage industry vendor and business partner relationships to advance MGIC's strategic objectives. Kyle also manages MGIC's corporate vendor management and procurement processes. Kyle represents MGIC's interests on mortgage technology related committees, industry standards bodies and organizations. Kyle is an active member of the Wisconsin Mortgage Bankers Association. He is a past member of the MISMO Governance Committee, as well as the past Chair of MISMO's Education Committee. Kyle earned his Certified Mortgage Banker designation through the MBA, and was part of the inaugural class of professionals earning their Certified MISMO Standards Professional (CMSP) designation. Kyle received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska, and a Masters of Applied Sciences in Computer Information Systems from Denver University.
- Tammy Butler, Master CMB, CEO/Founder, Fair Lending Diversity
Tammy is one of the leading subject matter experts on compliant fair lending methodologies and strategies for lenders. She has developed programs, training, technology and guidance to both lenders and consumer advocacy groups at a national level. Her past work involved building and branding a new technology and compliance management system workflow for Optimal Blue, to protect compliant lenders from pricing disparity claims and disparity in pricing exceptions, which is the leading causes of fair lending violations. Tammy has also performed the duties of a top producing originator, production manager, owned the largest training school in the mortgage industry and developed two successful technologies that integrated directly with LOS systems, counseling platforms, mortgage insurance companies, credit bureaus and secondary market lenders. Tammy is a Master CMB, LSS Black Belt and Certified Home-buying Counselor. She is the youngest woman ever to receive the mortgage banker's highest designation, Master Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB).
- Frank P. Donnelly, CMB, Branch Manager and Loan Originator, EverBank Mortgage
Frank is a 30 year veteran of the mortgage banking industry. Before joining EverBank Mortgage, Frank spent more than 20 years at SunTrust Mortgage in Falls Church and Washington, DC. Frank is a Certified Financial Planner® and a Certified Mortgage Banker (the highest designation in the real estate finance industry) and was recognized as a top 200 originator nationwide by Mortgage Originator Magazine. Frank served as the president of the Mortgage Bankers Association of Metropolitan Washington, DC in 2012. He is a regular panelist at the MBA's National Conference and is a frequent guest on National Association of Realtors Real Estate Today radio show.
- Faycal "Face" Fakhry, CMB, AMP, Senior Vice President of Regulatory Compliance Services, Newcourse Communications Inc.
Faycal has been in the financial industry for more than 15 years working in all aspects of the financial industry but mostly focusing on the mortgage world. At Newcourse Communications, Inc. Faycal oversees the development and execution of a full suite of third party regulatory compliance tools aimed at addressing the needs of the servicing sector. Faycal spent the last 6 years in the mortgage servicing / administration side of the mortgage industry, first with vendor Titanium Solutions Inc. followed by 5 years at RoundPoint Mortgage Servicing Corporation. Prior to the servicing aspect of his career, Faycal ran a loan origination broker shop and oversaw all aspects of loan origination, production, processing and underwriting. In addition to holding the CMB and AMP designations, he has been a well-regarded lecturer for various MBA events for the past several years.
- Malcolm B. Hollensteiner, CMB, Regional Manager of Business Development, George Mason Mortgage, LLC
Before working at George Mason Mortgage, LLC, Malcolm was the Director of Retail Lending Sales and Production at TD Bank, Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager at PNC Mortgage, the Director of Residential Production at Waterfield Bank and Area Manager at National City Mortgage. He began his career as a Loan Officer with First Washington Mortgage Company. With over 23 years in mortgage banking, Malcolm has developed a solid background of industry experience. He earned the Certified Mortgage Banking designation from the MBA and was also a past President of the MBAMW. Malcolm frequently serves as a mortgage banking speaker and educator. Malcom graduated from Harvard University in 1990 with a B.A. in history. From 1990-1992, he played professional basketball in Australia and Europe.
- Madeline Johnson-Oler, CMB, Executive Financial Consultant, Milliman
Madeline is dedicated to analyzing the financial risks associated with issuing and servicing mortgages, mortgage guaranty insurance, and credit enhancement structures. She specializes in secondary and capital markets, strategic planning, and business development in the mortgage finance industry. Her extensive experience includes executive consultant and senior management positions at Newbold Advisors, United Guaranty, Triad Guaranty, Mortgage Dynamics, Inc. and First Advantage Mortgage Corporation. She has been an active in the MBA Metro DC, serving as board member, president and chairman. She was received her Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) designation in 1998 and the MBA CMB Fellow Award in 2003. She has been CMB committee chair since 2004.
- Bob Mansur, CMB, Employee Development Manager, Gateway Mortgage Group
Bob has been in the mortgage business for the better part of the last 20 years working primarily in the training and servicing functions with a short time in originations. Having seen the servicing function in different companies, including The Money Store, Aurora Loan Services, and Chase, Bob has become familiar with loan administration. Bob served on local and national MBA committees and earned his Certified Mortgage Banker accreditation from the Mortgage Bankers Association in 2005. Raised in Boston, Bob remains an avid Beantown sports fan.
- Paul Peters, CMB, Recruiting and Business Development Manager, Assurance Financial
Paul has over 35 years of mortgage banking experience. He owned his own mortgage company and served in production, production management and executive management positions with other mortgage companies over the course of his career. Notably, he was president of the Hibernia/Capital One Mortgage Company for over 14 years, building and managing a dominant and profitable national production operation. Paul completed a BAA degree with emphasis in finance from the University of Louisiana, Monroe. He earned the master Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) designation awarded by the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). Paul also served on numerous mortgage banking boards and committees to include the MBA's Residential Board of Governors (RESBOG) and Fannie Mae's National Advisory Board. Paul is an NMLA licensed loan originator in Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Florida.
- Jim Picard, CMB, Vice President, Home Loans, Denali Alaskan Federal Credit Union
Jim manages the home loan origination, operations and servicing efforts for Denali Alaskan Federal Credit Union in Anchorage, Alaska. Jim graduated from Old Dominion University with a bachelor's degree, majoring in Business Management and is a Navy veteran. He is a three time past president of the Alaska Mortgage Bankers Association. Jim was the first Alaskan to be awarded the Mortgage Bankers Association Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) designation and is currently the Resident Instructor for the CMB Prep Course. He is a recipient of the MBA's Burton C. Wood Legislative Services Award and holds the Accredited Mortgage Professional (AMP) and the Competent Toastmaster (CTM) designations. Jim is a founding board member of the Anchorage chapter of Habitat for Humanity and has served on multiple boards that support our industry, senior housing, youth recreation and scouting. He has spent 34 years specializing in helping Alaskans achieve the dream of home ownership. In his off time Jim enjoys touring Alaska and the U.S. on a motorcycle and annually travels to Lambeau Field to attend games as a Green Bay Packers' stockholder.
- Lori J. Pinto, CMB, Senior Vice President of Business Development, Cenlar FSB
With over 20 years of experience in the mortgage banking industry, managing various areas in servicing, sales and acquisitions, she is responsible for new business relationships at Cenlar. She is an active member of the Mortgage Bankers Association of Greater Philadelphia, a graduate of the Future Leaders Program of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America and designated as a Residential Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB). Lori also served as the CMB Society Chairman from 2011-2012 and has served as a subject matter expert and instructor for the CMB Written Exam prep course.
- Jeffrey M. Schummer, CMB, Vice President of Education Business Development, Mortgage Bankers Association
Jeff is responsible for driving business development and growth of MBA's residential, commercial and multifamily educational, professional development and knowledge based programs under the MBA Education brand. Jeff's experience includes designing and implementing mortgage banking educational content through e-class, webinar and live instructor sessions in servicing, origination, underwriting, compliance and business operations for mid and large size lenders, multi-billion dollar banking institutions and Federal Housing Administration (FHA). Before joining MBA, Jeff was a Servicing Relationship Manager for Single Family at the FHA where he supported servicer FHA loss mitigation improvement efforts. He also served as President of Property & Casualty at Financial Independence and Senior Vice President at Wachovia Corporation. In addition, he held several executive level positions in Loan Servicing, Sales Production and Corporate Training at World Savings & Loan in San Antonio, Texas. Jeff received a bachelor's degree in business administration and marketing from California State University in Northridge.
- Steve Shoemaker, CMB, Vice President, Area Sales Leader, Synovus Mortgage Corporation
Steve focuses on recruiting top talent for field production and supervises an area that spans from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to Mobile, Alabama. He is committed to educating his origination staff and empowering them to be successful originators. In addition to being an instructor for the MBA, Steve is also an approved Continuing Education Instructor for Realtors through the Alabama Center for Real Estate. Steve received his Master's degree from Drake University and his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University. He is the 2012 Willis Bryant Winner for outstanding academic achievement at the School of Mortgage Banking. Steve has also participated in the Lincoln Leadership Institute at Gettysburg through the MBA.
- Nicole R. Smith, CMB, AMP, Associate Director for Educational Content, Mortgage Bankers Association
Nicole has over 30 years' experience in both wholesale and retail mortgage lending working in bank owned and independent mortgage banking operations in many functional areas of the industry. In addition to creating online, classroom and webinar courses for MBA, Nicole co-facilitates MBA's Future Leader's Program, instructs the CMB Prep course, serves as a panelist for the CMB oral exams, and is the Chairwoman of the Residential Advisory Content Council. Prior to MBA, Nicole was Senior Vice President at Netbank Funding as part of the executive management team directing the strategic and business decisions of the organization, in addition to managing a team of 65 production personnel. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Economics at American University.
- Seth D. Sprague, CMB, Senior Vice President, Phoenix Capital, Inc.
Seth joined Phoenix Capital in April of 2013 after more than ten years with SunTrust Mortgage managing their mortgage servicing rights portfolio valuation process as well as their periodic MSR transaction activity. Seth's primary duties include managing bulk and flow MSR transactions, advising on analytic and valuation strategies, and participating in strategic business development activities as the MSR market continues to evolve. Seth has a total of over 18 years of mortgage banking and servicing valuation experience at a variety of firms including SunTrust Mortgage, Bank of America Mortgage, United Financial / Matrix Financial and KPMG LLP. Seth holds an MBA from the University of Colorado - Denver and an undergraduate degree from the University of Richmond with a concentration in Accounting.
- Griff Straw, CMB, Owner, Griff Straw, CMB, LLC
Griff manages a consulting practice that specializes in mortgage lending issues and opportunities. He also oversees the Advisory Board for Real Matters, Inc., which includes it main subsidiary SOLIDIFI Inc. Solidifi is the leading Appraisal management firm in Canada and one of the TOP 5 in the US. Previously Griff was President of Solidifi's US operations. Additionally, Griff holds a Board of Directors seat for a privately held company in California. He has been involved in the housing finance industry since the early 1970s and has held various positions for MGIC, Freddie Mac, and United Guaranty (AIG) during his career. Griff received his Master Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) designation in 2000 and was inducted as a CMB Fellow recognizing his support of the CMB society. He was the National CMB Society Chairman 2008-2009.
- Patricia "Pat" Taylor, Managing Director, New Directions Consulting Services
Building mortgage banking firms, positioning them for growth or acquisition has been a very significant part of the work Pat has been involved in for the past 25 years. In previous roles, she has been President of Aurora Financial Group, Inc., Vice President of Servicing Solutions Group at Indecomm Global Services and Senior Vice President of Mortgage Operations for Urban Trust Bank. At Urban Trust Bank she was a member of the bank's founding executive team and responsible for establishing the mortgage division. Pat's vast experience also includes serving as Managing Director of the EDS Credit and Real Estate Services Practice, where she consulted with executive management teams of both domestic and international mortgage and banking organizations, including the Westpac Banking Corporation in Australia-one of the largest banks in the Southern Hemisphere. Pat has been an integral member of MBA's faculty for the past 9 years. She has been a major contributor to MBA Education's revision team for the School of Mortgage Banking and School of Mortgage Servicing and since 2008 she has been traveling across the country facilitating MBA workshops.
- Armando Zamora, AMP, CMB Candidate, Compliance Director, USAA Federal Savings Bank
In his current role, Armando has supervised efforts that have touched most major real estate regulations including the Truth-In-Lending Act (TILA), S.A.F.E. Act, the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank), Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosure (TRID) and the Real Estate Settlement and Procedures Act (RESPA). Previously, through extensive project work, he became recognized as a regulatory SME when he and his team were responsible for overseeing the execution of all compliance and risk-related activities for the Real Estate Product within USAA. Armando earned his Accredited Mortgage Professional (AMP) designation in 2013 while simultaneously leading a team that graduated from the Future Leaders Program. Subsequently Armando became an instructor for MBA Education’s School of Mortgage Banking and is currently enrolled in the CMB Program. He is a member of MBA’s Legal Issues and Regulatory Compliance Committee.
