Introductions
Emily is the Senior Vice President and head of Fannie Mae Originations at Berkadia. She oversees the Fannie Mae Deal Management team and is responsible for driving Fannie Mae business. Ms. Schultz has over twenty years of commercial real estate experience in both production and underwriting/credit. Prior to joining Berkadia in 2019, Ms. Schultz was a Chief Underwriter and Head of Prescreens at Newmark. She oversaw the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac underwriting and prescreen teams, which closed nearly $5 billion annually. In addition, she directly supervised the Deputy Chief Underwriters and Prescreen Managers. Prior to her time at Newmark and their predecessor companies, Ms. Schultz was a Deputy Chief Underwriter at Greystone Servicing Corporation.

Robert D. Broeksmit, CMB, is MBA’s President and Chief Executive Officer. He is a senior finance executive and corporate officer with over 30 years of experience in the mortgage sector. He has directed all aspects of lending activities, including marketing, sales, operations, secondary marketing, loan servicing, and default management. He has also served as a mortgage underwriting expert testifying on many large, high-profile cases. Prior to joining MBA, Broeksmit served as President and Chief Operating Officer with Treliant, heading the firm’s mortgage litigation support practice. He previously held senior leadership positions in the mortgage business, including 14 years with Chevy Chase Bank (including after its purchase by Capital One) and 7 years as Vice President at Prudential Home Mortgage. He has overseen annual originations of $9 billion, a balance sheet of $10 billion in residential mortgage, and a servicing portfolio of $20 billion. He is past Chairman of MBA’s Residential Board of Governors and a member of its Board of Directors.

Julia R. Gordon serves as the Assistant Secretary for Housing and Federal Housing Commissioner at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 12, 2022, Ms. Gordon is responsible for the Federal Housing Administration’s Single Family, Multifamily and Healthcare mortgage insurance programs, HUD’s Multifamily assisted housing portfolio, HUD’s housing counseling program, and HUD’s Manufactured Housing program. Throughout her career, Ms. Gordon has been both a strong advocate for and hands-on practitioner working to achieve equal justice, fairness and equity in housing, and consumer protections. Prior to joining HUD, Ms. Gordon was most recently the President of the National Community Stabilization Trust and has also held leadership roles at the Center for American Progress, the Federal Housing Finance Agency and the Center for Responsible Lending.
