MBA INSIGHTS: How did you hear about the Path to Diversity program?
ASHLEY BROWN: I heard about the Path to Diversity scholarship program through a fellow co-worker, Candacy McClaman, who participated as well as completed the School of Mortgage Banking program. She has encouraged me often to partake in this program, in which she proclaimed was full of information and provided a great opportunity to meet many people from different parts of the industry.
INSIGHTS: What inspired you to get more involved?
BROWN: What inspired me the most about participating in this program was the desire to want more--not only for myself, but for my son as well. I love acquiring information and knowledge! Especially when it's beneficial to my current career.
INSIGHTS: Did you find the application process to be easy?
BROWN: Yes! The application process was very easy. It was so easy until I thought that I didn't do enough and that it was too good to be true! I never thought that I would be chosen but I was for the third year in a row.
INSIGHTS: Have you had a mentor or mentors who encouraged/supported you?
BROWN: I have numerous people that I could name both professionally and personally as mentors. They've coached and encouraged me through this process and my gratitude for them is more than they will ever know!
INSIGHTS: How has the Path to Diversity scholarship benefited you, personally and professionally?
BROWN: The Path to Diversity scholarship has benefited me personally because I am able to share my knowledge that I acquired from using the scholarship with my family and friends who doesn't have a great understanding of what the real estate industry entails. Professionally, I used the scholarship to participate in the School of Mortgage Banking program, which enabled me to apply the knowledge to my career and become a better asset to my company.
INSIGHTS: What have you been able to bring back to your company as a result of the Path to Diversity program?
BROWN: I've been able to bring back a wealth of knowledge that I've acquired through the courses that are offered through the MBA program and apply it to my career. Not only has it been beneficial to my career, but it has also provided me with a better understanding when it comes to be a homeowner.
