The list below outlines the contents of the 2013 MBA DataBook. While these reports will be included with the 2013 DataBook, MBA is developing new content to make the 2013 DataBook the most comprehensive issue to-date.

 

The Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) provides some of the most comprehensive and granular data on annual mortgage activity. Each year, MBA compiles the best overview of this data, and puts it in a Databook, made to order. This year we’ve included some new features that we hope will add value to your organization and help you better assess the single-family origination landscape.

[1]    2013 Retail & Broker Origination Totals by State and US (NATION BY STATE, US)

a.       This includes both the number and dollar amount of originations in each state as well as the average loan size, for total originations, home purchase originations, and refinance originations.

[2]    2013 Retail & Broker Origination Totals by State and US – Change from 2012

a.       Same layout as report listed above – difference being that data shows changes from 2010 data.

[3]    2013 Retail & Broker Originations for the Nation by Purpose and Type (PRODUCT MIX, US)

a.       Originations broken out by Home Purchase, Refinance and Total – and then within each of those categories the breakout of Conventional, Conventional Jumbo, FHA, VA, and USDA (RHA/FHS)

[4]    2013 Retail & Broker Originations for the 50 States by Purpose and Type (PRODUCT MIX for all States)

a.       Same report listed above, except for the 50 States, DC, Puerto Rico and State Not Available*.

[5]    2013 Retail & Broker Origination totals for the 50 States by Purchaser Channel

a.       Shows the break out of total state origination volume by purchaser type (Fannie/Freddie/Ginnie/Affiliate/Other/etc.). The XLSX file contains both a condensed printer-friendly version and a full detailed version.

[6]    2013 Retail & Broker Originations for the 50 States by Purchaser Channel (CHANGE FROM 2012)

a.   Same report listed above except change from last year.

[7]    2013 Retail & Broker Originations for the 50 States by Purchaser Channel (% SHARE REPORT)

a.   Same report listed 2 up except shows the share of originations in each channel by state.

[8]    2013 Top 100 Retail & Broker Lenders for the Nation, ranked by Origination $ Volume

a.       As described, originations by lender (number and dollar), for Total and Home purchase, as well as 4 different compositional (or “Shares”) categories. This report also includes aggregated data on the remaining institutions. “All Lender” lists available for additional fee.

[9]     2013 Top 100 Retail & Broker Lenders for the 50 States, ranked by Origination $ Volume

a.       Top 100 Lenders for each of the 50 States, DC, Puerto Rico and State Not Available*. Format similar to Top 100 Lenders for the nation.

[10]    Heat map – 2013 Origination Volume (Total Number Only) by Lender, by State for the Top 100 Lenders

a.       A new report addition to the data book which shows lender origination breakouts by state for the Top 100 Lender (ranked by Origination Volume – Number). The heat map feature allows you to see in which state every lender has the highest/lowest concentration of total origination volume. This report is available by $ volume, and for purchase and refinance at an additional cost.

[11] NEW: Top 5 Lenders by Loan Type (Conv. Non-Jumbo/Conv. Jumbo/FHA/VA/USDA)

a.       Report showing Top 5 Lenders and their origination volumes for each of the loan types mentioned above.

b.   There are 2 VERSIONS of this report: One for Home Purchase Originations and one for Refinance originations.

[12] NEW: Heat-Map: Ratio of Origination's to Applications by State and Loan Type (Conv. Non-Jumbo/Conv. Jumbo/FHA/VA/USDA)

a.    This ratio represents the percentage of applications that resulted in originations/closings/fundings (i.e. = [Origination Count]/[Application Count])

b.   There are 2 VERSIONS of this report: One for Home Purchase Originations and one for Refinance originations.

[13] NEW: Heat-Map: Average Loan Size by State and Loan Type (Conv. Non-Jumbo/Conv. Jumbo/FHA/VA/USDA)

a.   Matrix showing average loan size for each of the 50 States, DC, Puerto Rico and State Not Available.

b.   There are 2 VERSIONS of this report: One for Home Purchase Originations and one for Refinance originations.

[14]    Underlying data – for those who want to do their own analysis.
