Aaron Mahler is a partner in the Financial Services - Investigations, Regulation, and Litigation group at Paul Hastings, and is based in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office. He has established himself as a valued counselor for financial services companies and individuals navigating government enforcement, litigation, and regulatory matters. He focuses much of his practice on representing bank and nonbank financial institutions in government examinations, investigations, and enforcement actions. Mahler regularly counsels clients on issues dealing with intersecting business and compliance considerations where he develops practical solutions to defend clients against regulatory investigations and actions, including those involving the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), state attorneys general, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Federal Reserve.

Wendy Lee is the EVP and Chief Legal Officer of Sagent, a servicing technology provider. Wendy has been engaged as a legal executive in both mortgage servicing and technology for more than 20 years. During this time, Wendy has played the role of lawyer (McCalla Raymer Leibert Pierce), consultant (in Deloitte's Seattle office), servicer (with the former Washington Mutual Bank), start-up strategist, and even was a database architect way back when in her past life. In her role as Chief Legal Officer, she has been very intrigued by the impact of data privacy laws on the servicing community and is honored to contribute to the movement and prevent the upcoming regulatory and legal changes from unnecessarily impacting mortgage operations.

In addition to maintaining and enhancing our systems, Christos is responsible for developing and deploying industry-leading innovations focused on providing exceptional customer experience and enhancing the loan officer origination activities with automation. Under Christos leadership, NFM Lending has built a completely cloud-based architecture, hosting our custom developed application including a proprietary Point of Sale system (POS) and the integration platform to connect directly with direct source service providers. Prior to joining NFM in 2017, Christos has been responsible for technology management, product development, and solutions implementation for some of the biggest names in the mortgage industry, including: US Bank, First American Title – Mortgage Services, and Fannie Mae. Christos has dedicated his career to leveraging innovation to improve the mortgage loan life cycle. He has been directly involved in technology strategy and implementation of regulatory and investor guidelines with large lenders, such as CitiMortgage, Bank of America, US Bank, NYCB, and JPM Chase, as well as many smaller originators, community banks, and credit unions. Christos led the deployment of MISMO standards for underwriting, closing collaboration, and investor delivery and was one of the early developers and adopters of digital mortgage and electronic loan closings.
Amanda Lawrence is a partner at Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe, where she partners with financial services companies, including fintechs and traditional financial institutions, in a wide range of consumer litigation, enforcement and regulatory matters. She is well versed in all aspects of her clients’ business and is known for providing thoughtful and practical advice. She leverages her experience with litigation and enforcement agencies to stay ahead of regulatory trends impacting the finance and fintech industries. Key among these is data monetization and regulators’ heightened focus on how data is collected, used, stored and transferred. Amanda’s practice started in the cyber and privacy spheres, and today she helps clients manage compliance with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) and Regulation P, the Safeguards Rule, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
Michael Nouguier has more than 15 years of experience in Information Technology and Cybersecurity. His cybersecurity experience focuses on providing enterprise information security and risk management services to various organizations, from mid-market to enterprise, with an emphasis on regulated industries, from financial services to healthcare, manufacturing and media/entertainment and industries. Nouguier holds a B.S. in Business Administration with a Computer Information Systems Emphasis from Colorado Christian University. He also earned his MBA in Business Administration, Project Management, and IT Governance from Colorado Christian University.
