First elected to the U.S. Senate from Rhode Island in 1996, Senator Jack Reed has a proven record of working on a bipartisan basis to help solve problems and achieve results. As one of just eight Senators in U.S. history to graduate from West Point, he has been described as “…a serious, intellectually honest veteran and…expert on defense issues in the Senate,” as well as “…a quiet dealmaker respected by colleagues in both parties.” A senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Reed is also known as a relentless advocate for his home state. Reed also serves as Chairman of the powerful Senate Armed Services Committee, where he has played a pivotal role in safeguarding our nation. And as a senior member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, he authored several key pieces of the Dodd Frank Act reform package aimed at protecting U.S. consumers (as signed into law by then-President Obama in 2010).
