Monika brings her passion for building relationships and connecting people to the company’s business development activities. Her unique experience as both in-house counsel and outside counsel working with public, private and start-up companies enables her to add valuable insight to CrossCheck’s engagements with mortgage companies, banks, credit unions and fintech companies. Her work frequently involves partnering directly with in-house counsel and outside counsel to provide strategic advice and help clients both mitigate risk and cost effectively scope engagements. As general counsel, Monika advises the firm on ethics, conflicts of interest, governance, internal controls, risk management issues, contracts, and vendor management and provides guidance on client matters.
Loretta Salzano founded the firm in 1997 to provide practical legal solutions to mortgage lenders. The firm takes pride in its unique ability to counsel clients on achieving their goals while navigating the complex tapestry of federal law and the laws of all 50 states. She focuses on fair lending, compensation, and RESPA. Salzano also prepares contracts (including warehouse and loan purchase agreements); troubleshoots to mitigate damages; and advocates with regulators. Among her many honors, she was named a Top Compliance Lawyer by Mortgage Compliance Magazine and serves as Legal Counsel to the Mortgage Bankers Association of Georgia.

Cole Braun is a Partner in the Adams & Reese Nashville office, representing business clients in commercial litigation, consumer credit litigation, financial services, and insurance recovery and advisory services. Practicing since 2008, Braun has experience in a variety of litigation areas and across state and federal jurisdictions. He is licensed to practice in Tennessee, Missouri, and Illinois, numerous federal district courts, and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Seventh and Eleventh Circuit. He keeps his commercial clients abreast of financial services issues impacting their businesses by staying active in the American Bar Association and Mortgage Bankers Association.
Leslie Meredith is a partner in Hinshaw and Culbertson’s Washington, DC office, providing strategic, business-oriented advice to corporate and individual clients in the consumer financial services industry on compliance with consumer protection laws and regulatory enforcement matters. She also has extensive experience managing supervisory examinations, handling complex civil litigation, and conducting internal investigations. Her work is grounded in deep knowledge of federal and state laws impacting deposits, payments, lending, and servicing. She has worked with a wide range of bank and non-bank lenders, fintechs, mortgage servicers, and settlement service providers to establish and maintain compliance management systems, launch new products, and resolve enforcement matters on favorable terms.
Ed Miller is the President at Elite Mortgage Consulting. He's a compliance operations powerhouse with over 25 years in mortgage lending, half of which in the Chief Compliance Officer role. He leads compliance operations, fair lending, HMDA, vendor integrations, and cross-functional compliance deployment for our clients. Miller learned the industry from the ground up, starting in the mailroom, then becoming a Sales Representative, Product Manager, and Director of Secondary Market Sales in the wholesale lending division. This journey gave him a deep understanding of business units, their concerns, and their needs. An experienced Loan Originator, Miller is also a highly skilled LOS administrator. He has a deep understanding of the sales team workflow, the importance of smooth processes.
R. Colgate Selden is a shareholder at Baker Donelson. He counsels clients on regulatory legal, licensing, supervision, enforcement, transactional, and litigation matters. Prior to Baker, Colgate co-founded a law firm, was a partner at two international law firms, and was the head of regulatory legal, compliance, and risk for all proprietary product, origination, privacy, and secondary market activities at a fintech. Colgate was also a founder and senior counsel at the CFPB where he helped to draft LO Comp, ATR, TRID, HELOC, Privacy, Debt Collection, and AMTPA rules. Additionally, he was the CFPB team lead for TILA mortgage, Privacy, and FDCPA interpretive inquiries, and a member of the RESPA policy team. His CFPB, in-house, and law firm experiences offer a unique vantage point for clients.
John D. Socknat is Practice Co-Leader of Ballard Spahr's Consumer Financial Services Group and Managing Partner of the Washington, D.C., office. He leverages his knowledge and breadth of the business issues affecting the financial services industry and the legal landscape to advise clients on regulatory, compliance, and licensing matters under state and federal law, preparing them for examinations and audits by state and federal regulators, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and defending them in enforcement actions. Socknat is a member of the Industry Advisory Council to the American Association of Residential Mortgage Regulators (AARMR) and the SRR Industry Advisory Council, and is a Fellow of the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers.
David K. Stein is a partner at Taft, Stettinius & Hollister and maintains a national practice in Banking and Consumer Financial Services. For nearly 20 years, David was general counsel for a top fifty lender and now represents and defends institutions of all sizes against claims arising from TILA, RESPA, ECOA, FCRA, GLBA, and other state and federal-related matters. David is the author of MBA's Social and Digital Media Compliance Guide and counsels lenders facing issues related to loan origination and servicing, marketing and sales practices, state and federal regulatory investigations and examinations, privacy and data security, and the defense of legal and administrative claims.
