RIHA's chief purpose is to encourage and assist -- through grants to distinguished scholars and subject matter experts, educational institutions, research facilities and government organizations -- the establishment of a broader based knowledge of mortgage banking and real estate finance. Included in its focus is research on expanding rental opportunities and home ownership among the underserved and how to encourage equal credit access to mortgage credit for all qualified borrowers.
The institute also provides grants to enable representatives of selected universities, government and government-sponsored organizations whose interests are in real estate finance and closely allied fields, to attend as regular students, the School of Mortgage Banking and other relevant programs of the Mortgage Bankers Association, including but not limited to, commercial real estate/multifamily finance programs. Applications for such grants are made through the relevant program.
