Mark McArdle heads up regulatory affairs and public policy for Newrez. In this role, he works with regulators, trade groups, consumer groups, and other stakeholders on mortgage policy. McArdle was the Assistant Director of Mortgage Markets at the CFPB from 2017 to 2025, where he led a team that worked closely with industry and other stakeholders to inform the Bureau and the public on current and future trends in mortgage origination and servicing. At the Bureau, he led efforts to modernize HMDA reporting, update the Ability-to-Repay/Qualified Mortgage rules, and spearhead the Bureau’s mortgage response to COVID-19. Before CFPB, McArdle was the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Stability and other roles at Treasury, where he led TARP housing efforts.

Aaron Mahler is a partner in the Consumer Financial Services and Litigation group at Paul Hastings and is based in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office. He has established himself as a valued counselor for financial services companies and individuals navigating government enforcement, litigation, and regulatory matters. He focuses much of his practice on representing bank and nonbank financial institutions in government examinations, investigations, and enforcement actions. Jeff Naimon is a Partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliff LLP, with more than 25 years of experience assisting bank and nonbank financial services providers (and investors in same) with regulatory, enforcement, and transactional matters. He defends financial services companies facing complex examination or enforcement matters before the CFPB, FTC, and federal and state banking regulators, with a focus on fair lending, UDAAP, loan servicing, privacy and credit reporting, debt collection, servicemember protections, and other consumer protection issues. He assists banks and nonbanks (including fintech entities) structure, negotiate, and operate a variety of partnerships, outsourcing programs and other third-party arrangements.
