Trey Tagert

Senior Advisor, Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development

Trey Tagert currently serves as Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary and Director of Regulatory Initiatives within the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In these roles, he serves as HUD’s chief fair housing policy expert and principal advisor on fair lending issues. With more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, Trey has built a career at the intersection of risk management, regulatory compliance, and lending operations. He has held leadership roles at major mortgage lending institutions, two top-five banks, one of the three primary credit reporting agencies, and Fannie Mae. Prior to joining the Trump Administration, Trey spent several years advising on fair lending risk management, helping organizations strengthen their fair lending compliance programs. This included the design of fair lending training programs, complaint management protocols, and the implementation of ongoing, proactive monitoring. Most recently, he served as the Vice President of Fair and Responsible Lending at UMB Bank. In addition to his public service, Trey is an adjunct professor of Banking and Financial Services at Collin College and is a Bastiat Fellow of the Mercatus Institute at George Mason University. He previously served on the Advisory Council of the Excellence in Banking program at Texas Tech University, Rawls College of Business. He received the Young Scholars Program Award from the Association of Private Enterprise Education (APEE) and served as an Academy Fellow at The Heritage Foundation. Trey was honored early in his career when he was nominated to participate in the Mortgage Bankers Association Future Leaders Program.
