MBA's CREF Private Credit Council brings together industry professionals to exchange insights, discuss best practices, and explore the evolving role of private credit in commercial real estate finance. As one of the fastest growing segments of the capital markets, private credit provides flexible financing solutions outside of traditional bank lending. The Council serves as a forum for members to stay ahead of market dynamics, share perspectives on challenges and opportunities, and build meaningful connections across the industry.

Meeting Frequency: The Council meets virtually once a quarter, offering members regular opportunities to explore commercial real estate market dynamics, exchange views on market trends, and connect with peers across the private credit investment community.
What You Missed – The CREF Private Credit Council convened on Thursday, April 23, to discuss CRE market cycles and the use of leverage in private credit.
Rich Hill, Global Head of Research and Strategy at Principal, provided an overview of the commercial real estate market and where we currently stand in the market cycle. Cary Carpenter, Managing Director of CRE Capital Markets at Starwood Capital, and Shannon Stotts, Head of CRE Credit at Saluda Grade, covered a wide range of topics including how private credit interacts within the commercial real estate ecosystem, the use of back leverage, and current headlines surrounding private credit.
