MISMO Publishes Document Mappings for Key VA Eligibility Documents
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 25, 2026) – MISMO®, the real estate finance industry’s standards organization, today announced the release of standardized data mappings for the VA Request for Certificate of Eligibility (VA Form 26-1880) and the Request for Determination of Loan Guaranty Eligibility – Unmarried Surviving Spouses (VA Form 26-1817). Developed in close collaboration with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), these specifications enable consistent, data-driven exchange of VA eligibility information in support of VA’s Loan Guaranty digital transformation.
Eligibility determination for VA loans has traditionally relied on document-driven workflows that introduce manual effort, inconsistent interpretation, and delays. These mappings support the digitization of VA loan origination by standardizing key eligibility data, such as prior VA loan usage, entitlement purpose, and military service details. By enabling machine-readable data exchange, the specifications reduce rekeying, accelerate eligibility validation, and improve turnaround times.

The VA Form 26-1880 and VA Form 26-1817 mappings were developed by the MISMO VA Documents to Data Development Workgroup (DWG), in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and led by Jose Ferrer, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Co-Chair, and Nick Fisseler, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Co-Chair.
The specifications have achieved “Candidate Recommendation” Status, indicating broad industry consensus and readiness for implementation. MISMO encourages lenders originating loans with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as the technology providers that support them, to download the mappings and work with their trading partners to implement.
