Its chief purpose is to encourage and assist - through grants to distinguished scholars and subject matter experts, educational institutions, research facilities and government organizations -- the establishment of a broader based knowledge of mortgage banking and real estate finance. Included in its focus is research on expanding rental opportunities and home ownership among the underserved and how to encourage equal credit access to mortgage credit for all qualified borrowers.The institute also provides grants to enable representatives of selected universities, government and government-sponsored organizations whose interests are in real estate finance and closely allied fields, to attend as regular students, the School of Mortgage Banking and other relevant programs of the Mortgage Bankers Association, including but not limited to, commercial real estate/multifamily finance programs. Applications for such grants are made through the relevant program.
Founding of RIHA
On Tuesday, November 17, 1998 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., the Research Institute for Housing America was launched before a distinguished audience comprised of Mortgage Bankers Association executives, researchers, policymakers, community advocates and members of the media.Founded by the Mortgage Bankers Association, the Research Institute for Housing America is the first national organization devoted to independent research housing and mortgage markets.
RIHA is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of MBA senior management. The Trust Administrator is Michael Fratantoni, MBA Senior VP and Chief Economist.
RIHA is advised by an Industry Advisory Board. Current Board members are:
