MBA's CREF Agency Council is an information-sharing and broad policy development body on multifamily finance issues as they relate to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The Council identifies issues and provides a discussion forum for member firms involved in GSE lending.

Meeting Frequency: The Council meets virtually on a quarterly basis and in-person at the CREF Convention and Expo.
What you missed – The CREF Agency Council convened for their first meeting on Thursday, April 9th, attendees received a market update from Dr. Judie Ricks, MBA’s Associate Vice President of Commercial Real Estate Research. The group discussed the changes since the GSE lending caps were announced and the concern now that meeting those caps will be challenging. Council members are seeing more competition from other lending sources and resource strain from the GSEs. Council members discussed ways to use technology to improve the borrower and lender experience. The Council also discussed growing issues around asset management reviews. Lastly, the Council received a policy update from MBA staff, and discussed the legislation related to investor ownership that was already impacting the build-to-rent market. The Council will next survey members about future topics and speakers.
