School of Mortgage Banking Mission Statement
The mission of the School of Mortgage Banking is to provide real estate finance industry professionals with essential knowledge and skills necessary to be competitive in an industry undergoing constant change. Through yearly comprehensive quality control, MBA staff and the faculty of the School of Mortgage Banking ensure that the school's content is up-to-date, topical and relevant.
Each course in the School of Mortgage Banking builds upon the prior one so that students have an opportunity to learn about all facets of residential mortgage lending, from fundamental concepts to strategic planning. An overview of commercial real estate finance is included to provide students with a more complete understanding of mortgage lending. After completion of all three courses, students have a comprehensive knowledge of the entire operation of a mortgage banking firm and earn the Accredited Mortgage Professional (AMP) Specialist Designation.
SCHOOL OF MORTGAGE BANKING I - AN INTRODUCTION TO THE REAL ESTATE FINANCE INDUSTRY
School of Mortgage Banking I (SOMB I) gives you the power to be a more knowledgeable and productive team player. The course emphasizes the interrelated roles of the departments within a residential mortgage banking firm and the relationships of the various institutions and agencies throughout the real estate finance industry. The course presents an overview of associated disciplines of mortgage banking, including loan production, secondary marketing, warehousing and servicing. The course also introduces the world of commercial lending.
SCHOOL OF MORTGAGE BANKING II - MANAGING PROFITABILITY AND RISK IN MORTGAGE BANKING
School of Mortgage Banking II (SOMB II) is open to all professionals wishing to become invaluable players in the real estate finance industry. This course emphasizes effective organization and management of the production, servicing and secondary marketing departments, for the purpose of controlling risks and maximizing bottom-line profits.
This course covers new markets, production management, servicing portfolio management and valuation, marketing risk management and pricing.
SCHOOL OF MORTGAGE BANKING III - STRATEGIC PLANNING FOR MORTGAGE BANKERS
School of Mortgage Banking III (SOMB III) emphasizes long-term strategic planning in a mortgage banking environment. The course includes a group case study and hands-on simulation, which allows participants to analyze the financial structure of a mortgage banking firm and the relationship between operating policies and profitability. The exercise incorporates industry trends, current economic indices and other factors to formulate a strategic five-year plan.

Attendees of SOMB courses are from all levels of experience, employed by companies in all areas of residential real estate finance, including mortgage bankers, mortgage brokers, banks, thrifts, credit unions, secondary market agencies, mortgage insurers, technology firms and other service providers. Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB)
Attendees of SOMB I or SOMB II earn 15 points toward MBA Education's Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) Designation. Attendees of SOMB III earn 30 points. Learn more about the CMB.

Graduates of the School earn the Accredited Mortgage Professional (AMP) Designation in honor of their commitment to industry education. Learn more about the AMP.
