    Joseph E. Silvia, Senior Counsel, Chapman and Cutler

    Joseph Silvia is senior counsel in Chapman & Cutler’s Banking and Financial Services Department. Joe concentrates his practice with financial institutions on general corporate matters, mergers, acquisitions, strategic transactions, financial technology (Fintech), and banking and consumer finance regulation. Before joining Chapman, Joe practiced in the Chicago office of two Am Law 150 law firms and spent four years as counsel to the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago where he focused on bank, bank holding company, and savings and loan holding company supervision and regulation, as well as consumer finance and compliance matters. Joe advises clients and regularly writes and speaks to industry groups on topics related to the supervision and examination of banks and non-bank financial institutions, including M&A, corporate governance, vendor management, BSA/AML, Fintech, and regulatory compliance. Joe is also an Adjunct Professor of Law in Consumer Banking at the Chicago-Kent College of Law.

    Nima Vahdat, Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer, Impac Mortgage

    Nima Vahdat is Impac Mortgage’s Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer. In this position, he oversees all compliance activities for the organization and also acts as the organization’s Fair & Responsible Lending Officer. Prior to joining Impac, Nima was SVP, Associate General Counsel for loanDepot overseeing all origination compliance, fair lending, and fraud/AML activities for the organization. In his career, Nima has worked in banking compliance at organizations including Discover and Washington Mutual. Nima received his law degree from the University of Michigan and his MBA from California State University, Fullerton. He is also an author for such publications as the ABA Bank Compliance Magazine, Mortgage Compliance Magazine, and Banking CIO Outlook Magazine and is a frequent speaker at various industry forums such as the Mortgage Bankers Association and California Mortgage Bankers Association.

    Michael (Mike) Forester, Managing Director, CrossCheck Compliance LLC

    Mike Forester is managing director of CrossCheck Compliance, a firm that provides regulatory compliance, internal audit, and loan review services to financial institutions. He has spent over 30 years in the mortgage and financial services industries. Prior to co-founding CrossCheck, he was associated with The Prieston Group, a firm that provides fraud prevention and indemnification services to the mortgage industry. Prior to joining The Prieston Group, Mike spent 16 years with Household International (now HSBC). During his career with Household, he served in a variety of positions, including national sales director of Household's correspondent mortgage business and chief financial officer of Household's consumer finance business, Household Finance. Mike began his professional career with the accounting firm of Ernst & Young. He is a certified mortgage banker, certified public accountant, and a certified fraud examiner. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and has an MBA degree from the University of Chicago. Mike currently serves on the Legal, Quality, and Compliance Committee of the Mortgage Bankers Association, Advisory Board of the Anti-Money Laundering Association, Risk Committee of the Illinois Mortgage Bankers Association, and Production Committee of the Wisconsin Mortgage Bankers Association.
