    Melissa Koupal, Senior Vice President, Loan Integrity, loanDepot.com, LLC

    Melissa Koupal is the senior vice president of Loan Integrity for loanDepot.com, LLC, a full-service direct lender headquartered in Foothill Ranch, Calif. since the company launched in 2009. In this position, she oversees origination mortgage compliance, servicing mortgage compliance, licensing, customer service, quality control and regulatory examinations for all channels of loanDepot. loanDepot’s family of brands include imortgage, Mortgage Master and LDWholesale. The company currently holds more than 11,000 corporate and loan officer licenses across all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Since 2008, Koupal has been the president of the Reglist Serv Compliance Group which is comprised of more than 1,200 mortgage professionals specializing in the areas of quality control, compliance and legal issues in the residential mortgage field. Reglist Serv was established more than 10 years ago and its participants include a wide variety of experts. In this role, Koupal is responsible for the coordination of conferences, networking groups, maintaining regulatory updates and overall management of the group. Previously, Koupal owned her own compliance consulting firm, License To Lend. She also worked at Nationwide Lending. She is a frequent speaker at industry conferences including the Mortgage Bankers Association. Also, she serves on the Industry Working Group for the NMLS.

    Jack Konyk, Executive Director, Government Affairs, Weiner Brodsky Kider PC

    Jack has over four decades of experience in a wide array of positions in consumer banking and lending, concentrated in all aspects of mortgage finance, as well as senior positions in regulatory compliance, enterprise risk management, and public and government affairs management at a variety of institutions including National City/PNC Mortgage, and Mellon Bank.  Jack is active in numerous industry trade associations, a frequent speaker at conferences across the country, and a prominent voice for the industry with legislators and regulators at all levels of government.  He is a past member of the Mortgage Bankers Association’s (MBA) Board of Directors, is active on numerous MBA committees and has held leadership positions on many of them.  Jack is also a member and Past Chairman of the American Association of Residential Mortgage Regulators’ (AARMR) Industry Advisory Council, and has had significant involvement with the Financial Services Roundtable’s Housing Policy Council and the American Bankers Association’s (ABA) Mortgage Markets committee.  He now serves in an advisory and consulting capacity, as Executive Director of Government Affairs at Washington DC-based Weiner Brodsky Kider PC, one of the nation's leading financial services law firms.

    Joshua Weinberg, Executive Vice President, Compliance, First Choice Loan Services Inc.

    Joshua Weinberg is a nationally recognized speaker, author, consultant, and leader in the mortgage industry. He is the President of Firstline Compliance, a consulting company specializing in mortgage compliance and technology; and also, the Executive Vice President of Compliance for First Choice Loan Services Inc.  He works closely with Federal and State Regulators including the CFPB, FDIC, CSBS/AARMR, and the HUD/FHA and participates with many industry associations. He is the immediate past Chair of the Mortgage Bankers Association’s Regulatory Compliance Committee, a member of ABA’s Residential Markets Committee, Past Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for MISMO, a member of the Registered Institutions Working Group for the NMLS, and an Advisory Board Member and Compliance Expert for Mortgage Compliance Magazine.  Previously he worked for a major LOS vendor where he was in charge of Compliance, Government Loan programs and Reverse Mortgages. He has worked in retail banking environments and also worked independently as the owner of a mortgage broker company.

    Loretta Salzano, President, Franzen and Salzano, PC

    Loretta Salzano founded Franzén and Salzano in 1997 after serving as in-house counsel to financial institutions. Loretta advises banks, mortgage lenders, real estate brokers, title agents and other settlement service providers on how to increase their business while complying with the laws of all 50 states and federal law including, but not limited to, RESPA, TILA, ECOA and HMDA. Loretta advises her clients regarding fair lending, compensation, marketing, licensure, fees, disclosures, reporting, and other matters related to their products and services. She drafts and negotiates contracts, including service agreements, compensation agreements, loan purchase and sale agreements and warehouse documents. Loretta also assists clients in responding to regulatory examinations and actions.  Loretta was named a Top Compliance Lawyer by Mortgage Compliance Magazine, is a Fellow of the American College of Consumer Financial Services Attorneys and serves as Legal Counsel to the Mortgage Bankers Association of Georgia and to Rainbow Village, a transitional housing program. She is active in many industry and professional associations and frequently speaks on lending issues.

    Michelle A. Mierzwa, Partner, Compliance, Licensing and Regulatory Division, Wright, Finlay & Zak, LLP

    Michelle A. Mierzwa is a Partner in Wright, Finlay & Zak’s Compliance Division, providing loan originators, servicers, investors, trustees and others in the mortgage industry with state and federal compliance and regulatory counsel in the Western States.  Over 20 years in the industry, she worked in loan originations, litigation and appellate practice, led the legal department for a large non-judicial foreclosure trustee, coordinated compliance audits, and managed the California branch of a national law firm.  She works with clients of all sizes to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, including California and Nevada Homeowner Bill of Rights, FDCPA, RESPA, TILA, SCRA, Washington Foreclosure Fairness Act, Nevada, Oregon and Washington Foreclosure Mediation Programs, Dodd-Frank Act and CFPB Rules, state licensing laws, and regulatory agency investigations.  She is a Legislative Committee member for CMBA and United Trustees Association (“UTA”), a three-term Board member of UTA, frequently speaking at industry conferences and servicer trainings.

    Troy W. Garris, Founder and Managing Member, Garris Horn PLLC

    Troy Garris is a founder and managing member of Garris Horn PLLC.  Troy is a business owner’s lawyer, priding himself on a results-oriented, pragmatic approach to addressing legal issues in the financial services world.  Troy deals with federal and state compliance, enforcement defense, company formation, and mergers and acquisitions (M&A).  In these areas, Troy represents independent mortgage bankers (IMBs), community banks and other depositories, homebuilders, and related entities (e.g., lenders, servicers, title companies, secondary market investors, and equity funds).  Troy is active in the industry, including being significantly involved with industry associations and currently is a board member, and Chair of the Regulatory Compliance Committee of the Texas Mortgage Bankers Association.  In 2007, the Mortgage Bankers Association named him to the Future Leader’s program.

    Jihan Bahhur, Regulatory Compliance and Public Policy Manager, Navy Federal Credit Union

    JiJi Bahhur is a Regulatory Compliance and Public Policy Manager at Navy Federal Credit Union, the world’s largest credit union.  She has been with Navy Federal since 2015.  Her portfolio includes compliance with mortgage origination issues and the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act.  Before joining Navy Federal, JiJi served as Director of Compliance and Senior Compliance Attorney for four years at National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU).  While at NAFCU, JiJi was responsible for NAFCU’s multi-faceted compliance assistance program – including answering compliance questions, authoring compliance blog posts and articles as well as speaking at industry events. Additionally, she oversaw all of NAFCU’s compliance-related products and services – including the Credit Union Compliance GPS and Online Training for Boards and New Staff.   JiJi began her career as In-House Counsel/Director of Compliance for nearly 3 years at Washington Gas Light Federal Credit Union.  Her experience as an In-House Counsel spans across regulatory compliance, advocacy communications, vendor and contract management, employment and labor law, and corporate governance.  
     Further, she is a NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer (NCCO) and also a committee member for both MBA’s HMDA Taskforce and CMCP Level II Curriculum Committee.  

    John D. Socknat, Partner, Ballard Spahr LLP

    John Socknat is the Practice Leader of Ballard Spahr 's Mortgage Banking Group, and a member of the firm's Marketplace Lending Task Force. He devotes his practice to counseling financial services institutions on compliance and licensing matters under state and federal law, preparing them for examinations and audits by state and federal regulators, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and defending them in enforcement actions.  John’s clients include mortgage lenders and servicers, financial institutions, real estate brokers, secondary market investors, consumer finance companies, fintech companies, marketplace participants and outsource service providers, among others.  John assists clients with developing compliance programs and implementing and operationalizing new regulations.  He also represents clients in connection with loan and servicing rights purchase and sale agreements, servicing and sub-servicing agreements and stock and asset purchase and sale agreements.
